  • Comments Thread For: Fury College Football Appearances Kicks Off Promotion For Wilder Rematch

The hype has already begun on the ESPN side of the promotion, but at least the necessary steps are being taken in efforts to make the heavyweight title fight rematch between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury as big an event as possible. News of the fight being officially signed and sealed was revealed on the final Friday of 2019, with their anticipated sequel to take place February 22 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Pay-Per-View event will be a joint effort by ESPN and Fox Sports, with the two sports-based powerhouses leading many to believe that the final returns will far exceed that of their first fight last December, where Wilder and Fury fought to a draw atop a Showtime PPV card which garnered 325,000 buys.

Here we go again. Didn't Wilder try to promote his Ortiz rematch during some football shows a couple months ago? All his fans were on here praising him and how many people watched the promos before the fight. Then after the fight, which only had 7k fans in the stands (and free tickets given away), they refused to release the real PPV numbers (because they were so low). Waiting for "leaked" numbers to be spread by people who had nothing to do with the promotion of the fight hahah. And a lot of you idiots bought that. Again, they will try all they can to pump this fight up and it will still not be a sellout and then they will lie about the PPV numbers. The smart play would be to wait until they give free tickets away like they did last time. Or wait until the tickets are on Groupon like last time. Or just stream the fight, like everybody else hahah. By the way, AJ's fights, which are held in 70k soccer arenas, sell out within hours...

"A planned appearance by Wilder at Saturday’s other college football playoff semifinal—with #1 ranked LSU blowing out Oklahoma in Atlanta—was scrapped due to internal issues, although the 6’7” heavyweight will figure to be prominently featured in well-placed spots during the NFL playoffs on Fox."

      ... OK, OK...

They should let Fury and Wilder kickoff the ball to start the games.

I think it does well, Fury is involved after all. Breaking records probably not but we can blame Wilder's lack of charm and natural charisma for that.

What I also find funny is that AJ's next fight with Pulev will be in a huge soccer stadium and it will sell out within hours. No piggybacking off NFL or college football. No need to do promos where it looks like WWF or WWE. Just a boxer with multiple belts who is fighting highly ranked competition every time he fights. That's why the entire UK gets behind him. Take Fury and Wilder off each others record and what do you have? Mostly bums, old men, gatekeepers and the rest. Neither one of them has fought the best and that's why they can't sell a fight. No one wants to see them fight more bums. We want to see them fight Povetkin, AJ, Whyte and other with no excuses. Fight them all and THEN maybe Wilder or Fury can fill an arena. And one question to all you Wilder fans. How many of you have ever been to one of his fights? How many of you have ever actually bought a ticket to watch him KO another bum?

80k brits showed up for Froch vs Groves, a fight between second and third rate super middleweights at the time. It's not a high bar over there. Maybe cricket isn't exciting enough Lol. If AJ ever gets over his fear of fighting in the States (especially Vegas) I think he will draw well there

Ajs popularity doesn't have as much to do with his belts or his competition, because in all honesty what he's done with his career isn't all that much better. Povetkin and Klitchko are the 2 biggest names on his resume and were both old men, just like Ortiz.

Aj gets his support because UK fans are patriotic and kind of desperate for to have stars in boxing. You're talking about a group that passionately followed Ricky Hatton despite him being mediocre in comparison to the other fighters of his era (such as Floyd, pac and cotto). Hell, they even blindly supported khan despite the fact that he's a delusional tool with one of the worst chins in boxing history. UK fans didn't support lennox Lewis as they saw him as Canadian, until he became the man at hw. Then they began to embrace him. In boxing, we're unfortunately in a state where the most popular boxers aren't necessarily the best ones. It's more of, which fan base is the most blindly supportive. The fan bases that get targeted are the uk and Mexican fans because they will support regardless. Even where are multiple reasons not to. (see Chavez Jr as an example)

When it comes to hw, none of the 3 (fury, wilder or Joshua) blow your socks off when it comes to opponents faced. None have a roster of opponents faced like holyfield and Lewis did. But, wilder and fury facing each other, supercedes anything that Joshua has done.

Absolute garbage that you just posted hahaa. Povetkin, Klitschko, Whyte, Ruiz and half of AJ'S opponents...Wilder has refused to fight. So that automatically makes Wilder have an inferior resume. Let alone the fact that Aaj has garnered 3 or 4 belts in half the time that Wilder has his one. Also, outside of Ortiz who is 40 and Fury, how many top 25 opponents does Wilder have on his record? Exactly. He has turned down more top fighters than he has actually fought.
