So I watched a UFC fight for the very first time.... Absolutely horrendous

Savage and barbaric activity where pretty much anything goes until the opponent taps out. Elbows, knees and headlocks galore.

Two grown men wrestling on the ground. I DON'T WANT TO SEE THAT SHYT!!!!!!!!

In boxing, you use only your fists. No elbows, knees or taking your opponent to the ground to bail you out. If you aren't skilled enough with your fists, it's going to be a LONG night. If you are hurt, the referee will give you an 8 count. He will ask you if are ok to continue. If you are not ok, he will stop it.

No comparison. Boxing is much more civilized and is the true gentlemen's sport.

I tried to get into it when it was first getting popular 15 years ago. Every fight I saw was the exact same, entire rounds of a single grapple, etc. etc.

I just can’t get into MMA. Don’t care about it.

Brock Lesnar left the WWE and won the world heavyweight title in what, two fights? By just sitting on guys and punching them? Yeah...I’m good lol. Say what you will about boxing but that would never happen.

I cba watching two men wrestling around on the floor, but i don't mind it when both fighters stand up, however the quality/technique is usually so poor, it just makes me miss watching boxing.

As the years go on I watch more of UFC, I probably watched half a dozen of their cards this year. The quality of fighters continues to grow also, it’s a way higher standard compared to when I started off watching it in 2009.

It’s definitely more gruesome and barbaric than boxing but there are still rules and things that are prohibited.... like strikes on the back of the head or kneeing a downed opponent. It’s more fighting than boxing is though.

There are a few common elements, but yeah - it's a completely different sport with very different rules, a very different aesthetic, and very different outcomes.

On the face of it, boxing feels much more refined. There are more rules, more limitations to what the fighter is allowed to do. For me, those limitations don't limit the sport. It's kind of a paradox - you need that structure, that form. It works in tandem with the more savage nature of fighting. For me, harnessing that animal/warrior/gladiator instinct and pairing it with this elegant form of rules and restrictions is really moving to see, almost spiritual in a way.

I know others see MMA in a similar light (Sam Sheridan's book "A Fighters Heart" does a great job getting at this), and while I can appreciate MMA, it just doesn't speak to me in the same way boxing does.

MMA is a very low skilled sport. These guys are jack of all trades master of none. Back in the day when there were no weight classes this guys were masters of their discipline. Now everybody trains for every discipline and they aren't great in none of them. Just average. Mixed Martial Arts is supposed to be just that. A striker vs a bjj. Karate vs wrestler. It's all over the place now

I gave it a go. Not for me. I see why people like it but not me. I found myself just watching the stand up Boxing work and as soon as they went to ground i forwarded it till they got up again.

Once the UFC's hypejobs (McGregor, Ronda, etc) where destroyed it got boring af. Only fights I care about are Khabib vs Tony Ferguson/Nate Diaz if El Cucuy fails & Jon Jones vs Stipe then I'm gone

There are no Tito Ortiz's, Chuck Liddell's, Spider Silva, etc in their primes in MMA anymore

This is exactly how I feel about UFC. I really hate when they go to the ground.
Boxing has way more appeal for me.

Watch Amanda Nunes vs. Cyborg, Paige VanZant vs. Rose Namajunas, or Amanda Nunes vs. Holly Holm.
