Comments Thread For: Hearn Shocked There is No Media Tour For Wilder-Fury

Promoter Eddie Hearn was shocked at the recent news that Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury would not come together for a media tour to promote their scheduled rematch. Wilder will defend his title against Fury for a second time on February 22 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The bout, which took place at Staples Center in Los Angeles, saw Wilder and Fury battle for a controversial twelve round split draw.

This fight doesn't need a media tour.
What it needs is a decent undercard so I can enjoy some boxing before my family gets drunk and starts yelling.

For boxing fans, no. But for average viewers, most definitely!!!
No media tour is a missed opportunity to get non fans to check in.

There are 2 reasons for this.

1 is Fury verbally sonned Wilder last time around in the pressers, it got a bit embarrassing at times for Wilder. Bless him he isnt so good when it comes to words and speaking. Wilders side dont want more of that and this time Fury will be able to talk about how he has already tasted Wilders power and how he beat him the last time they fought. Fury dont punch hard but the pressers would be a verbal bloodbath for Deontay.

        2. We are once again hearing about how a Wilder fight is going to do crazy numbers. 2 million PPV sales apparently. We all know already that that isnt going to happen but we are all ready to be bombarded with whimsical tales of Deontay the PPV super star and how Floyd proved Deontay will be massive and just how many homes could buy that fight. So when none of that happens and it does average to decent numbers at best they will point to the mistake of not promoting it properly, in this case no pressers, and that with the addition of pressers in the "rubber match" the popularity will explode and it will be a huge success, about 2 million PPV sales.

Its what these Wilder ***boys do. Tell you what a massive super star Wilder will be in "the next fight" and when the numbers come in and Wilders fight has done ok or bombed "No not this fight, Next fight".

Yea it don't make no sense to me either. Especially after Bob was hyping the announcement of this fight & suggesting Fury was gonna do something that woulda made a big splash with fans. Something went south. I'd love to hear what Bob is saying behind the scenes rn.

They arent even gonna get 1M buys if this is how the "promotion" goes.

Why are some people saying this fight doesn't need a media tour? wtf

We had one of the most controversial decisions for a while + a hugely dramatic ending to the fight and the two guys haven't been together since.

Insanity to suggest we don't need media.

They are using reverse psychology, now since us boxing fans all know that they aren’t promoting it... they just promoted it! And we are all still gonna watch and have the casuals there with us drinking... cheers to the truth

This will be plastered all over ESPN during the last few college bowl games. National title game alone will have around 30-35 million viewers. No need for a press tour when you have those #s.

He can be shocked or he can be not shocked, it doesn’t have anything to do with him. He’s irrelevant. ESPN and FOX will promote the hell out of this fight including during the Super Bowl, the rest of the existing nfl season leading up to it, college sports, during commercials on UFC on ESPN, during WWE on FOX, and stand alone shoulder programming on both networks will no doubt be epic so keep trying to make
Yourself relevant by clout chasing a mega ppv fight that shows how the real sports networks reach the AMERICAN sports fan
