Was talking to a co worker this morning. He’s a big UFC fight fan but likes boxing as well.
Asked him if he was going to watch the Wilder/Fury rematch and his response got me thinking:
He basically said no because the knockouts are on Twitter within a few minutes of the fight ending.
The draw of a guy like Wilder is his awesome KO power, but if most of his fights end early and people can see the highlight for free a few minutes later, how likely are casuals going to drop $80 to see it?
May not only apply to Wilder but he is the best example with how he is marketed. I remember the Canelo/Kov KO being seen quickly on Twitter as well.
Back in the day if you didn’t see a Tyson fight you weren’t likely to see it for a while as ESPN wasn’t allowed to show fight footage from PPV fight for a long time.
