Has a foreign fighter ever been the FACE of American Boxing?

Has a foreign ever really been the FACE of American boxing:

    Mayweather or Manny: Cleary Mayweather!

    Mike Tyson or Chavez: Clearly
    Tyson!

    Oscar or whoever: Clearly Oscar!

Canelo failed to crossover and has stop trying to appeal to Americans.

A case can be made for Lennox Lewis. Any others?

Calm down, man! What's eating you? I concede that Canelo is more likely than not the biggest draw in boxing; Especially here in North America. So yes he is probably the face of American boxing without question.

In the U.K. It's clearly Anthony Joshua. He's box office. He sells more tickets and Pay Per Views than any other boxer over the pond and in that part of the world.

If we're honest boxing has a ton of carry-over we as avid fans tend to overlook or not admit to.

1885-1899 the face is Sullivan. Sure, Corbett and Fitz had fans, but, Sullivan was still the man by most people and casuals would hardly recognize there was a new champion.

1899-1910 Jefferies dominates what it means to be a boxer.

1910-1919 is all Jack Johnsons. Jess Willard is the only man being out shined here. He got a lot of fanfare for beating the black man but not much in way of real fans or public support for him as the best alive. When your biggest and most well known accolade or association includes the man who was the man, then, you've been outshined.

1919-1937 Jack Dempsey. I know folks want to tell me "But Tunney doe, but Max doe" so on. Yes there were some popular guys but it's still the same story, the height of their popularity is eclipsed by the twilight of a memory.

1937-1957 Joe Louis. Louis hadn't lost to Charles until 1950 but even still folks persisted the bomber had the goods still, until Marciano in 51, Louis was the man even for hardcores. After that more casuals still recognized Louis than even knew Marciano's name. Rock's my dude and he was popular, but, not popular enough to take Louis from the face of boxing.

1957-1962 All Patterson, Johansson was buried under the massive popularity of Patterson. If you didn't know, Patterson was unusually popular.

1962-1964 Liston, no one to even challenge him.

1964-1987 Ali, George and Joe got popular but no one achieved what Ali achieved. Ali's popularity and association with boxing was probably at its highest in the late 70s and 80s. So popular that even today it could be argued Ali is the face of boxing.

1987-Present Mike Tyson. No one's done much of anything to dethrone Mike's association with boxing. He's bigger than the sport and brings in massive numbers of people who would otherwise have absolutely no association or interest in boxing or boxers. Punch-Out alone puts Mike leagues above anyone who came after including Mayweather. Get on something with no association to boxing and ask " You know Mike Tyson? You know Floyd Mayweather?" Mikes gonna body that poll because Mike's in video games, movies, and television shows that get people with no interest in boxing. Far and wide the most associated man alive today.

Manny Pacquiao was the face of boxing. Why pretend as if he wasn't?

                  Yes

                  For a brief time, and at their height;

                  GGG
                  Duran
                  Lennox
                  Pacquiao

Were all the face of 'american boxing'

If you look carefully at those names, they were loved by americans because there was a 'home fighter' americans were hating on. Kinda like **********s liking Russia over their fellow ******** countrymen. Weird but true

This ends the thread. Now it's between Canelo or Joshua. That double ends the thread

                    Edit: Okay maybe not Joshua
