It's smart for him to stay a free agent. That way he can work all sides of the street.

More boxers need to get together and do this. Have like a little union where they can all advise each other and share knowledge and experiences of how to best navigate the promotional minefield.

Mikey is the man. By only signing 1 fight deals he was able to leave Haymon easily and didn’t have any issues getting away.

Mikey negotiated the deal himself and had his personal attorney review the contract.

Eddie Hearns is the man. Makes sure his fighters are paid 🥊 💯

The guy is an intelligent person, he is surrounded by educated members of his family. He is well known not to tie himself down to anyone since he got himself free from Top Rank.

So please show us where Haymon negotiate on his behalf.
mukey negotiated his own deal. Just like he did when he signed with Haymon. This was bidness not personal. Just dude you’re responding to is emotionally attached to pbc and tries to spin things because it hurts his heart when fighters leave pbc.

All fighters should aim to be independent, once u have a name, and strong following they all should try to ve independent like Cotto at the end of his career and now Mikey.

Just be smart about selecting opponents **cough Spence

Mikey is a class act! It's ironic how much hate he got for leaving Arum, even though Arum was robbing him! Why do people hate the fighter who's been wronged, and still love the promoters that have done the wrongdoing? The excuse I hate is "Well Arum and King gave us great fights!" So we should just ignore that so many of the past great ones died broke? We should just ignore the BS everlasting contracts, the fake contracts, the shady lawyers, etc.?

Free agency has made life better for athletes in all sports! We need more in boxing, not less! Mikey should be celebrated for his intelligence! He should be celebrated for his decision to fight Spence Jr.! The man lost one fight in 31 bouts, and now he's a bum? Really? GTFOH!

This is exactly why I think DAZN’s business model is unsustainable. How can Miley Garcia get paid $7m to fight Jessie Vargas? It’s a good scrap but you can’t make money on this fight. This is why HBO had to leave boxing, these economics are nonsensical.

Because they have an option on Garcia's next fight after Vargas.

Good points but things aren't that easy. There has always been talk of shady promoters and managers "ripping off" fighters. Of course it has happened but how many young, broke fighters needed the resources of their "team" to even get their careers off the ground? Few fighters make out really well and many fall by the wayside. Only the very top established "stars" can pull off the deals like the one Mikey Garcia is now enjoying. 7 million for a Vargas fight is actually an overpay by today's standards. Good for Garcia for working out such a deal. Should be a great fight!

Option or not, paying this guy 7m bucks for A Vargas fight was ridiculous. Where does he go after a win over Jessie that makes this worth it ? And wherever he does go, he’ll need to get paid for that fight too. This was wayyy too much. But hey, Haymon also has / had a rep for overpaying his fighters. At the end of the day, the ones putting their lives at risk are the ones benefiting.

Hopefully this all translates into better fights being made across all platforms. I still have Showtime, and subscribe to DAZN. I just wanna see some good meaningful fights somewhere.
