Oscar Disses Margarito

Yeah Ive heard the slogan, but what is 8M, didnt he make 7M last fight. 1M more aint that much difference to him, I dont think..the real ? is why is Arum offering 8M now when Floyd is no longer with him? How is Arum going to benefit from paying 8M, the fight might not even generate more than 8M $$$, I dont even see how he can offer that. For all we know, HBO might be offering him 10M, I know they got the $$$. And its not that we dont want to see him fight Margarito, its the fact that certain people make it seem as if he scared and need to fight Margarito. The debate is "Who is Maragarito to run and duck from, what problems could he actually give Floyd" Thats what the argument is about

Nopes, of course it's more than that. Both PBF and DLH needs each other. If this fight ever happens it could be the biggest pay check for both and of course they both don't want it jeopardized.

Because whether we like it or not... Baldomir is the champion of the division. Plenty of people think that Floyd needs to rule the divisions he fights in before moving on. He hasn't beaten the recognized champ at 140 or 147 so Baldomir solves that problem. After that I would love to see him figh Margarito. And I didn't say what is 8 million, I said why take 8 today when it could be 10 next year or in a year and a half. If Arum is willing to put up 8 now when only hardcore boxing fans know about this then imagine how much it will be worth after Floyd fights DLH and Mosley and starts opening his mouth. You mention Gatti... but the reason Floyd wanted and took the Gatti fight was for exposure and $. Gatti had something he wanted...proven PPV success. Margarito doesn't offer any exposure or fan base. His fans will hate Floyd win, lose, or draw so I don't think this is the same type of situation.

You said it perfectly. "Hardcore fans" are the ones who want to see this fight. The real money is made by attracting casual fans. That is something Margarito does not bring to the table. Most hardcore fans didn't want to see Judah-Mayweather, but it did like 350k buys. Why? Because the fight attracted casual fans. As strange as it may seem, people know who Judah is especially in the NYC area.

Also, Mayweather has basically said if he's going to lose a fight it's going to be against someone who's popular and has established his reputation. That's why he has no problem calling out DLH, Mosley, etc. Losing to Margarito would really hurt PBF's status among the casual fans because he'd be losing to an unaccomplished unknown. PBF tries to play off Margarito as a non-threat, but he knows the guy is a good fighter. That's why he's not worth the risk. Not even for 8 million...

You've oversimplified the belt situation entirely. Floyd has never been the undisputed champ at any weight but he won't be if he beats Baldomir either... Margarito will still hold a title. But Floyd hasn't held a LEGITIMATE title since 135 which he will if he beats Baldomir. Simple as that. And read my posts before you accuse me of worship, Floyd and Margarito can fight any time in the next 2 years and both still be at their primes. Baldomir is at the end of his career as are DLH and Mosley. Don't worry as a fight fan I want to see Margarito-Mayweather and am confident it will happen. You can't deny that a Mayweather that beat DLH and Mosley will get a much bigger PPV if he fights Margarito than he will now. Bottom line why fight now for 8 when you can fight now for 5 (against Baldomir and gain a recognized title whereas if you fight Margarito now the title probably splinters) and later for 10 or more (against Margarito). WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE NOW?

Obviously part of the reason is risk-reward analysis. I am not saying Margarito isn't worthy or it wouldn't be a decent fight. Simply Floyd doesn't think this is the move that will best add to his legacy and bank account and I can see why.
