Comments Thread For: Gervonta Davis: Possible For 135 To Be Better Weight Class For Me

His performance on fight night will ultimately reveal if the move to lightweight was the right call, but Gervonta Davis is already reaping the benefits of being able to carry five extra pounds. "I don't want to say easier, but I definitely got in shape way quicker," Davis (22-0, 21KOs) said during a recent conference call of preparation for his Dec. 28 Showtime-headlining lightweight clash versus Yuriorkis Gamboa at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. "I started running at this highest speed level. I don't know, it just went way quicker for this camp than it previously did.

Well that’s usually what happens when you stop blowing up in weight between fights..

2 jr lighweights fighting at lightweight is an odd start to his lightweight run. but gamboa is a good opponent regardless. heck, davis title run at 130—a great KO of pedraza then 5 no-hopers straight—was an abysmal run. just...so embarrassing for a guy woth that level of ability. hope this is a turn for the better for his career. gamboa is a dangerous wild card. he very well have one last hurrah, so im sure lookin forward to this fight.

His last two opponents were Featherweight and Super Bantamweight, so it only makes sense to face a Super Featherweight when he makes his Lightweight debut.

Especially since he's already mentioned wanting to go back down to 130 and then pull up Leo Santa Cruz

He probably walks around at 160 so it's still a lot of work needed to make that weight.

From seeing him in the crowds at big fights, I think him and I walk around at the same weight....and I'm 6'4

For a guy who weighs between 150 155 fight time 140 would be better but than he will turn into Broner when he starts fighting guys his own size weight wise

Who knows if Gervonta Ruiz Jr will miss the weight this time, too.
