Why do people think 09-10 Floyd Pac wouldnt do 4mil PPV?

I'm curious. After Manny starched Hatton, Cotto and Floyd dominated Marqusz there was no reason it woudnt do as much as 2015. They were literally more famous than Kobe Bryant at the time and when a fight came up, the talk of the town is Manny and Floyd.

It might have done 5mil IMO because of how much demand the fight had.

The hypothetical doesn’t make any sense.

Top Rank and Pacquiao didn’t want to do random prefight testing, something which is done today. Back then fans weren’t knowledgeable as today with these standard industry practices. Even when Brian Kenny asked Pac on ESPN Live “how about 15 days? Would you do that?” Pacquiao made excuses which today’s current fighter would make fun of.

This is why I tell everyone it’s what industry has always known about fighters before advanced drug testing. This is why it doesn’t matter what people say about Canelo and PEDS for FOTD. The previous FOTD didn’t have advanced drug testing nor prefight random checks! This is why industry doesn’t discriminate against Canelo.

It is why Hauser said on Macklin’s podcast that he thought Pac was using stuff before. This is the same Hauser that gave Pac FOTD in BWAA.

It’s not a big deal. Maybe to fans, but the real head hanchos that run the game know what went down behind the scenes

It might've. It might not have. Hard to say.

I feel like those extra years got more casuals on board that wouldn't have been on board in 09 or 10. So despite my anti-marination stance I think it helped this fight be bigger when you are just talking dollars & cents.

The question remains with any marination is it worth it overall doe. Okay maybe it does 500k less if you do it now vs a year from now but maybe you gain more traction with casuals if you do it now & the next 5 fights do overall better numbers now. Or since you do it when guys are younger maybe you can get a rematch or trilogy in there too where the biggest money is often made. Not to mention the inherent risk with marination if a guy loses & ruins or at least diminishes the whole thing.

If they would've of fought before the Bradley robbery it would of made over 4.6

I’m sure it would’ve sold a huge number of ppvs but would it have sold that many, I don’t know.

I think the 5 years of buildup contributed to the massive sales and helped it set the ppv record.

Something to consider was that the price was to be $59.99 i believe. Not 100 bucks

Shame we'll never know because Pacquiao ducked. Said "not the week of the fight" and then turned down a 14 day cut off.

People say Pac ducked because of PEDs but have no proof. It's all speculative.

Same hypocrites will defend Canelo and his failed PED tests because hes their favorite. Funny right?

Who knows, even Floyd was probably using himself and called Manny a cheat to delay the fight? Didnt he used an illegal prefight IV when facing Pac? Yep.

Things we know about Floyd. Only takes fights he can secure an advantage. Think about it. Who's the harder opponent to beat? 2009 Pac or 2015 Pac?

Think about what Floyd is teaching Tank. Take your time. Wait them out. Only fight when it's most advantageous. Make yourself look good beating bums.

The difference though is Floyd also had genetic talent. Fighting anyone 5'8 and shorter with 72 inches of huge is already a huge advantage.

                  Possibly

But also there’s much higher chance of a rematch in 09/10 as they werent so far in their careers

I think it would have overal been more financially successful over 2 fights even if they sold less on each occasion than 2015

Possibly but the other side of that is if Floyd whitewashes a prime manny, does manny’s earning power drop?

Bob was very successful marketing manny along side of Floyd. As long as people believed he was able to beat Floyd, that helped his marketability.

I think the powers that be always saw this fight going the way it did and that is why everything went down the way it did.
