Sorry it didn’t work. You might be able to find it for yourself if you google something like “Deontay Wilder on God”.

I’m not an expert of different belief systems but have studied a little about them in anthropology in college.

Basically his views sound more like a loose combination of pantheism and New Age spirituality rather than traditional Christianity.

He talks a lot about meditation and visualizing, and said basically that if you worship something or someone, even if it’s only a sock, if that spiritual belief gets you where you need to be, then that’s God, at least for you. Which runs contrary to the view held by virtually all Christians, that God is a personal being and is embodied in the historical person of Jesus of Nazareth.

I’m not sure if you’ve seen some of his other interviews, but he’s also talked about feeling “possessed” in the ring, whether by an alter ego or by African ancestral spirits, he was not sure. Said he feels this white light all around him and sees himself from outside his body while he fights, particularly in the second Stiverne fight when he went all beast mode.

It was this talk of possession in his face off discussion with Fury that Fury seemed uncomfortable and said he was a Christian and didn’t believe it was right to enter spirits into your body. To which Wilder yelled back something to the effect “its my God against your God.”

Either way, no knock on Wilder or his views, but a lot of what he says definitely runs contrary to what most Christians (Protestant or Catholic) believe.

Just an interesting observation, and like I said, no knock on the guy himself. I’m Christian but respect him and his right to choose what to believe whatever he wants, or nothing at all. But the beliefs he preaches is very different than anything I hear taught in churches or in the Bible. That said, I find it interesting since a lot of the articles I read continue to say he is Christian.
