"Whoever wins is going to be American!"

    By Karl Freitag
Heavyweight contender Oleg Maskaev said today that he is "extremely ready" for his August 12 pay-per-view title challenge against WBC heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman. "I will put up a good fight and the best will win," he promised. Maskaev, who was born in Kazakhstan, also stated that he takes exception to the billing of this fight as "America's Last Line of Defense." Maskaev, a naturalized U.S. citizen, stated "whoever wins is going to be American.....I'm a proud Russian-American. I'm a citizen of the United States." Oleg also added this his youngest daughter was born in America. "I'm very happy to be here and this is part of the American dream."

Maskaev must already have brain damage if he wants to be considered an American when he doesn't have to be.

You don't see us making fun of England for notoriously being home to the UGLIEST people on the planet. It's not your fault, the entire country is plagued with bad genes.

This is a good point made by Maskaev, who is as American as Rahman in terms of legality.

Yeah and I don't see the controversy.

Let's say Camoranesi for Italy scored a goal in international cup soccer that led to their team winning.

Is he not supposed to celebrate because he was born in Argentina?

No he is not supposed to play for Italy because he is born and raised in Argentina. Camoranesi is absolutely DESPISED in Argentina for the way he has turned his back on his own nation. He had to move his family due to death threats. Even the Italian players clearly don't like him. When he accepted Trappatoni's offer to play for Italy instead of waiting to be called to play for Argentina he said: "I'm not a traitor, I still feel one hundred per cent Argentine and have done nothing to find myself in this situation. It's only a football matter, nothing else." Shameful. Let's hope the barrio boys catch up with his family sooner rather than later. He is well known as one of the most disagreeable characters in European football.

Maskaev is as American as Arnold Schwarzenegger. A desperate ploy to win over fans.

It's a great point. Succinct and to the point.
