The first season scored between 2-6 of course the high being at the beginning and then slowly dwindling their after.

The Contender is good for boxing but at the same time it is bad because we know have the "The Contender champion" who is all of a sudden ready for a title shot at the real middleweight champ of the world.....

It's good for exposure but it is still leaving the sport corrupt due to the piss poor politics....What happens when the contender champs step into the ring with real champions and they are outclassed and embarassed...For The Contender series they better be cancelled or they will be if that happens.

All I gotta say about this hurting sport, which don't kid yourselves, it still is hurting, is this: Look at the PPV numbers. The DLH vs Mayorga PPV did upwards of 900k buys, Mosley-Vargas 1 & 2 did upwards of 700k numbers (and the final Mosley Vargas 2 numbers aren't out yet). Thats just 3 PPVs alone, all of which had the matches shown on free replay the following week.

Contender is good for boxing in that it'll increase exposure, but it's still not totally real boxing. It's getting a lot of would be fans' hopes up for something boxing is not. The sound effects and cut aways, slow motion, music, etc. These are not a part of boxing matches. People are watching mini Rocky movies every week on the Contender. Each fight is always so far a back and forth war. That's just not the case obviously. And this makes a lot of would be fans tune into an actual match and be like "damn boxing is so boring, this isn't at all like Rocky/Contender."

The cutaways, slow-motions, and sound effects on the punches are absolutely pathetic. The fact that they can't show a full round by itself w/o any crap added is sad.

The boxing so far resembles bum fighting. Wild and crazy punch throwing with horrible defense and poor technique.

It is for these reasons that I do hope Mora fights Taylor. Although I dislike Taylor, I'll enjoy him showing those Contender fans what real boxing is as he destroys him.

So all contender fans don't know what real boxing is?

The Contender sucks balls, but if it's good for the sport, then maybe the game show with the pro 5-rounders and the cheezy background music and Real World-like interviews with the not-quite-contenders shouldn't irk me like it does...

                Tonite was a good episode.
Wright looks like a sharp fighter, but too ****y.
Did anyone else see Mosley in the stands??

I'm just waiting for Ebo to fight, then I can be ammused. It's a pretty modest show at best but it's good for boxing because it'll give people a little foundation to begin to watch other events. In time if the spectators actually like boxing they'll follow real events, if they dont turn into fans... no harm no foul. I doubt boxing is losing any fans because of it.
