No more a cherry pick than Thurman. Thurman had come back from injury and looked like **** the fight before.

He was still a champ and undefeated.

Kovalev had multiple losses and was coming off a bad performance where he almost got stopped by Yarde. Plus, he's older.

Of all the champs at 175, he was easily the weakest.
