There are no perfect boxers. Even in the Tyson, Lennox, Bowe and Holyfield era, those guys weren't perfect.
Tyson got knocked out by Douglas, Lennox got knocked out twice by average boxers. Bowe only had a two year peak period and he was done after that. Holyfield struggled all through the heavyweight until he faced Bowe and showed he could hang.
Nostalgia is the problem with most folks and history always look perfect when stories are told and not witnessed.
Bruno was very one dimensional and limited. And at his best, he wasn't as good as Dillian Whyte. I'd even say Dubois is a better boxer right now than Bruno ever was. But I saw Bruno beat the brakes off Lennox's arse until he got caught with a big right and never recovered.
Posterity will rate this era as one of the best when it's all said and done.
Exactly all this. Bowe was also terrible against Golota twice. It's incredible how biased people are toward the 90's era HW. Also, you always hear that they all fought each other, all fought the best, etc, etc. Take Holyfield out of the equation and HE did! There's not much to speak of.
Lewis fought Tyson when the result was a forgone conclusion. Lewis and Bowe never fought. Bowe and Tyson never fought. It would have been great had prime Lewis and Bowe fought a couple of times, and prime Bowe vs Tyson a couple of times, and Tyson vs Lennox when they were prime/near prime. But none of this happened. That era get's way too much credit.
There have been some entertaining fights but "Golden Era" is a reach. Earnie Shavers would have beaten the brakes off any of these guys.
Ah the mythical Earnie Shavers, the guy that lost his 3rd fight to an unknown bum that got stopped in 4 out of 5 fights, the guy that got KO'ed in 5 rounds in his 14th fight against a bum? The guy that got stopped in a round by Quarry who btw has a 48% ko ratio? The guy that got beat up in his 50th fight by a 21-24 dude?
A gust of wind from one of wilder's swings will decapitate the dude like the glass chinned bum he is.
A golden era of boxing, or in this case a division, is when EVERYONE fights everyone. This current era is full of excuses, promoters who dont like to share and weirdo fan boys who care more about ppv sales or subs than actual fights that matter.
For an era to be called Golden it has to stand out and above other eras. So now we can look back at the HWs in the seventies and we know it was a golden era because
a/ no other era before or since has surpassed it and
b/ the calibre of the boxers was superb compared to other eras.
Only the nineties came close for HWs.
This era is not filled with great fighters as of yet. Wlad was a so-so amongst the greats, more down to his resume than his skills.
We may yet see more great fights. AJ-Wlad and Fury-Wilder are 2 for the ages - lets hope there are more.

Thanks.
A lot of these folks are either kids or delusional.
This era is going to end up being greater than the overrated 90s. Tyson the beast of the 90s peaked in the late 80s. George Foreman became a champion in his 40s. A flabby and sick Larry Holmes was still beating up contenders in the 90s. Lennox Lewis was getting knocked out cold by boxers on the same level as Chisora. Bowe was only good for two years. Etc. Fu..cking limited and one dimensional Bruno was a freaking champ in the 90s. LMAO.
That era was overrated, apart from the fact that they never fought one another. And when they did, they were all past their primes. Only Bowe and Holyfield were in their primes when they fought.

Like Bowe fought Lennox and Tyson? Like Lennox fought Holyfield and Tyson in their primes? And weren't those the big 4 of the 90s?
