Comments Thread For: Anthony Joshua-Andy Ruiz II: Afterthoughts

2019 ends as it began. Sort of. The heavyweight division resumed its previous three-headed status quo on Saturday night in Saudi Arabia. Anthony Joshua, using his jab, his feet, and a remarkable shift to a lean muscle frame, made it easy on himself by never tempting to make it hard.

If Joshua v Wilder is unlikely to happen in the later part of 2020, then Wilder v Ruiz would be a contest I’d like to see. Ruiz looks to have a great chin, and decent skills (better when he’s in shape of course) I’d love to see if Wilder could crack his chin!

Ruiz and Wilder would be a good match up to make because AJ and Wilder isn't happening next year or anytime soon.

The best version of Ruiz would struggle to beat the Joshua we saw last weekend. Ruiz is just too short and to slow of foot to get to him.

AJ would struggle to do the same against Wilder or Fury though, as he would be the shorter man and have to get within their range.

          My after thought of this:

AJ is the cash cow in boxing, period.

He has taken the reins from Money Mayweather as the PPV star.

He sold over £50m PPV in UK alone.

My friends who don’t even watch boxing were buying it.

          Mental.

That may change after this fight, most people Wouldve bought this one because of the fireworks of the first fight.

They will hesitate to buy the next one if there's any hint he's gonna run and looked scared again.

I believe that Wilder would knock Ruiz out. Joshua didn't really try to KO Ruiz and chose the right strategy (based on his own weak chin) to outscore the man. Wilder's not going to try and outbox anyone but relies on his devastating power. What the fight between Wilder and Ruiz would show is that Wilder punches much harder than the hard punching Joshua. It took Joshua seven rounds (I believe) to KO Dominic Breazeale but it took Wilder less than one round and only one punch to do the same.
