He should have went for the KO. I am really looking forward to Wilder obliterating AJ. I hope they fight soon.

Sometimes you fight to just win but at times you fight to impress.

This wasnt the kind of fight where Joshua could impress cuz he had to make adjustments. All he had to do was win by any means necessary and he did that.

Major props to Joshua for being versatile

^ Wilder always has a great chance of getting a KO, no one would be shocked if he stopped Joshua. I lean towards Wilder too in another fight he is behind on the cards.

He reminds me a lot of Wlad Klitschko. Another giant who didn't seem to know his own strength, and almost always ended up knocking his opponent into another realm when he finally let the right hand go. Usually because Emanuel yelled at him to throw it.

it got him in all sorts of trouble in the first fight

it is the same reason why Kovalev was tentative with Canelo

he had to fight Ruiz early, to get some respect and establish the perimeter... and so that the judges were not left with the impression that AJ was being walked down... but their gameplan was based on surviving for 12 rounds and winning a decision... opening himself up unnecessarily would have been dangerous, especially when he started to tire

Gets me how some 'fans' see a guy as a bum after losing just one fight, then complain when they use a lower risk strategy to win at all costs.

If you're fighting someone who doesn't have your reach, but has power that concerns you and a good chin, you fight the way Joshua did. Props to him for picking a winning strategy - the strategy he probably would've chosen in the first fight if he didn't underestimate Ruiz - and executing it. Did boxing fans want to see a fight in this style? Joshua supporters aside, probably not; it was a rough version of Klitschko's style, with a generous bit of fear mixed in. I doubt it's a style that Joshua prefers to fight in. But you fight the way you have to fight to win.

I don't think he "ran", but they had a game plan to win by decision and not seriously engage in exchange's with Andy.Even if he hurt Andy I think the plan was do not go for the kill.

People really don’t know what boxing is if they think AJ “ran”. He boxed and moved, exactly how Wlad, Lewis, Holmes, and Ali did before him.
