Ruiz just said out of his own mouth, he didn’t prepare like he should have. He didn’t listen to his team during training and trained himself. I didn’t get that part. They didn’t have the right preparation. Seems like it went to his head and he wasn’t hungry enough. So give Joshua credit and stop making excuses for Ruiz. Joshua fought the fight he needed to, to keep his career moving forward. It’s boxing. No one that risks their life inside the ring needs to fight how fans want them to or how the other fighter wants them to.

Furys toughest fight to date has probably been Wilder and he wasnt even fit for that.

I still rank the way he got up up from that 12th round knockdown by Wilder the best bit of sport Ive seen in my life which will probably never be surpassed .

Whatever you say about Fury he is a quality fighter and in my view probably the best pure boxer in the heavyweight division.Hence theres a reason why he's made millions from the sport eg the last contract he signed was over 50 million for a certain number of fights.

how hard is Fury punching? I have the feeling AJ will beat him. With Wilder not so sure! On points easy win for AJ but Wilder's power makes it very dangerous for him.

Joshua is the new world boxing bicycle heavy weight champion....he can not call himself a champion....coward, you had to show that you have heart....running you never gonna beat Fury, and Wilder ia going to knock you out....running like a chicken....

He boxed. Nice sideways movement, never gassed out, and his punches were effective. Not just scoring taps, but stinging jabs that snapped by Ruiz's head back over and over again. And a vicious right in the first, the impact of which sliced his brow open. People are saying Wlad mark 2, but I think the fluidity of the movement was closer to Ali than Wlad.

It is not cowardly to enter in ring and face an opponent that beat the sense out of you in your last fight. It is not cowardly to have the self-honesty to appraise your own flaws and come up with a strategy that corrects your mistakes. It is not cowardly to outbox your opponent completely.

And say what you want about running or being on a bicycle, but Joshua really could have completely avoided exchanging from the 10th onward and still won on points. But repeatedly chose to engage and win those final rounds as well.

Well said. Not my favourite type of fight to watch but in the end AJ did what he had to do and showed courage by not taking a bunch of cupcake fights in between to rebuild his confidence. Full credit to AJ, from a big Wilder fan.

Now I just hope we can get to Wilder-AJ before too long. I understand AJ will probably have to satisfy at least one mandatory before that happens, but let's pray it can be arranged before 2020 concludes.

Ruiz obviously got lucky the first time around. In his defence, if the other guy is smarter, bigger, taller, faster, longer, what can he do?

Even the fat 20st Ruiz would beat AJ in the 1st fight. AJ can’t slug with fast short heavies

Thought it was a good performance from Joshua, better footwork and jab than I imagined he’d produce. He was disciplined and stuck to a strategy which was good. He probably the best 3 or 4 power punches of the fight too, particularly the right that opened the cut up.

Every time he allowed Ruiz to get in close though he looked vulnerable, I don’t think Joshua will be rushing into a trilogy fight. For whatever reason Ruiz can hurt AJ, and AJ does not seem to be able to make a dent in Ruiz, so box and move was the only sensible strategy.

I think Wilder and Fury still best Joshua, and a fit Whyte causes him problems. But the likely next fights are Pulev mando (Cardiff) potentially the Usyk v Chisora / Parker winner, and then a trip to China for Zhang. I don’t see Fury or Wilder fights happening for Joshua until at least 2022 if at all.

Agree with your assessment in the first paragraph (edited to add: and second!). I think Wilder clearly could knock AJ out. Not convinced Fury bests Joshua. (insert style makes fights cliche). If Wallin connects with Fury like he did, Joshua probably smashes his face in.
