Removing your gum shield to buy time during a fight while you recover is not a good idea. Training to recover from getting hit with good defense is a good idea!

Comments Thread For: Joshua Rejects Ruiz's Claim of Never Being Hurt in First Fight

Ruiz was hurt he knows it he's just trying to get inside Aj's head saying that. Anyone who's ever laced up a pair of gloves knows that those punches hurt some just sting less than others. Plus its the HW division those guys are well over 14 stone so yes he was hurt.

I think the definition of hurt is being grasped at by some people. I'm sure it did hurt... Nice bruises left behind, but in boxing to me, some pain is not hurt.
Hurt to me isneeds to clinch, needs to buy time, cannot effectively box in the next few moments as he had before the knockdown.
Wincing in pain at least. Ruiz was none of the above , therefore I don't think he should be called Hurt there. There were no visible Ill effects, aside from him hopping up off the floor.

Im convinced the kid doesn't feel pain.
Unlike the giant glass jawed robot who it seems has it hardwired into his programming along with quitting in his corner and lying about it!
I know this thought hasn’t even entered your paradigm but imagine if Joshua actually beats Ruiz on Saturday by knockout?

Seriously, I cannot even imagine how it should be getting a blow in my face coming from a 6.6 behemoth like Joshua, but seeing how fast Ruiz got up and how "clear" his mind was, I must suppose that:
1) he has incredible resistance and will
2) he knows very well how to take punches (in the sense that even if that punch got him, he could have done some movement to make it less effective)

Joshua lost first fight because he dropped Ruiz.
If he didn`t drop Ruiz, he would have won UD after 12 rounds of terrible fight. And saved his belts.
Dropping the guy who is not even hurt is not always a good thing. When he is back and comes forward, you have to finish him in a dogfight. If you don`t to that you are in danger.
Don`t go in a fireworks fight if you are not sure you can win.
