  • Comments Thread For: Joshua Rejects Ruiz's Claim of Never Being Hurt in First Fight

Anthony Joshua has rejected the claim by IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz - who insists he was never hurt in their first meeting back in June. Ruiz went down in the third round of the contest. When Joshua made an aggressive attempt to finish him off - Ruiz clipped him hard with a counter and the British star never recovered. Joshua went down two times in the same round, and then twice more in the seventh before the fight was waved off.

He never looked unsteady on his feet. If Ruiz says he wasn't hurt, that seems believable to me.

How is this a headline, does every thought and statement warrant an article?

I hurt him. I know I did. He might have hit the canvas with his glove like he was mad, and then got up and whooped my ass, knocking me a bunch of times in the process...

But I know I hurt him

Never in my life have i seen a boxing match, MMA fight or a street fight for that matter, where a guy wasnt hurt after getting knocked down.
These are professionals and are TRAINED to get up and fight after getting knocked down, regardless if they are hurt or "supposedly" not.

I’ve seen quotes from David Price, Khan, Povetkin even Pac Man after one of his Marquez fights, all say they weren’t hurt. In fact win or lose, it’s very rare a fighter admits they were hurt, because if they thought about getting hurt they would never box.

Most competitive boxers live in a kind of reality distortion field, where they believe they will win, even against enormous odds, I guess that’s what makes a fighter a fighter.

you've never seen an off balanced knock down where the guy wasn't really hurt at all?

Joshua will make the same mistake again: he will "hurt" Ruiz, try to finish him...and Ruiz will beat him again. It is about ego.

Ruiz took a massive shot flush just after he got up and still came forward.

Im convinced the kid doesn't feel pain.

                    Touche'......that one escaped me.
BUT, for the instance of AJ knocking down Ruiz, THAT was not Andy being off balance or tripping. He caught a solid left to his mouth and fell. I believe his right arm was all weird too, when he was on the canvas. He was hurt, whether he disagrees or not, but his training, his will, and his "ganas" got him back up and he came back to win, BIG!
