Comments Thread For: Judging The Judges: Valdez-Lopez Scoring Analysis

Adam Lopez saw his stock soar in defeat, even more so with many observers coming to his aid as the victim of a quick stoppage versus Oscar Valdez. Still, a defeat was where the valiant late replacement was heading even if he survived the seventh round of their ESPN+ main event Saturday evening in Las Vegas, Nevada.

I had Lopez winning 58-55 before the 7th, if made it thru that round he would have still up 66-65 on my card but the only card that matters is the judges card

Didn't see much encouraging changes in Valdez. Didn't see anything encouraging in Valdez. This is a fighter I believe could have beaten anyone in the division. Now with his new trainer, I'm not sure..
        Where are you Oscar Valdez?

Since changing trainers, nothing looks good anymore. Nobody's perfect but what one does better than the other will make them champ. Reynoso is a ball and chain. Cut loose the overrated time consumer and go back to being Valdez.

These scorecards are the reason for the " corruption" claims in boxing. Although it may just be incompetence, it is certainly not a good look. Was Valdez ahead 58-55 as Dave Moretti saw it? This jugde had Lopez only winning the second round. I suggest the boxing commision should force Moretti to rewatch the fight and explain his scoring. There needs to be better oversight in regards to judges.

You have a former champ that is debuting at 30 preparing to fight a certain fighter than last minute has to completely change his strategy... same goes for lopez only difference is that this was lopez chance of of a lifetime and in defeat... I think we came out with two winners last night, Valdez is still lined up for title shot and lopez stock went up. Anyone will struggle with a slick boxer that’s taller and longer and just as fast as you... that’s what Valdez went up against and still was able to come out with the victory. Hats off to both fighters

I guess the investment in Valdez had to be protected....

you did leave out that Lopez had to jump up a full weight class on 24 hrs notice. He was up against it way more than Valdez was. I've seen fighters take yrs to move up a weight class.... He did it on a day's notice and then got screwed by an overly eager ref.

Valdez is a mediocre champagne at best haven't seen any improvements with Reynoso he looks to be less of a come forward fighter now and wait for his opponents to take charge
