I don’t think this fight shows that Valdez is garbage. You have to take into consideration the circumstances-replacement opponent at the last minute and Valdez was moving up in weight.

I Still think we’d all have benefited from a Valdez/Shakur fight. Instead Arum moves him into an all Mexican clash with Berchelt rather than give us a significant FW fight that would’ve had some electricity to it.

It’s decisions like this that make you understand why top guys leave TR. fight with Valdez would’ve really elevated Stevenson’s profile win or lose and given us a big fight that would bring more attention to the lower weight classes.

I saw it coming. Not surprised at all at Valdez looking bad. I’ll
take it with a grain of salt given the circumstances. F/cks up the mindset and the whole vibe of the event, and ultimately your performance.

Valdez and Lopez had the same exact surprise to each other. Lopez was going to be in the undercard, so he trained. He didn’t just get off the couch. He just didn’t train for Valdez. And Valdez didn’t train for Lopez. Both were ready to fight but not eachother.

It doesn’t matter what you think of Lopez. Neither fighter were prepared for the other.

Also don’t feel too bad for Lopez, he earned more money for the change.

You’re also exaggerating the move up for Lopez. They were both 126lb fighters. This was Valdez first fight at 130 in years. He’s been campaigning at 126 until last night.

You beat me to it. Was going to write this hours ago. In fact based on the variances for rehydration, Lopez looked about 2-3lbs bigger than Valdez, regardless if he was prepping for 126. Valdez doesn't seem to blow up much. Personally I like Valdez, his face reminds of Chavez. I enjoyed the fight. Lopez came to fight and on his A game. Fight was 50/50 till it ended, but as Ward said, it was only a matter of time that Valdez cranked up the gears. Lopez seemed to have been slowing during the 5th onwards.
