Tyson admitted being on coke in fights. So what if...

Well if you're Iron Mike and you can blast the guy out in 1 you're pretty much good, haha. Dangers like taxing of the cardiovascular system would come into play more over the course of a grueling 12 round dogfight. Use in pro sports definitely happens but I think a lot of it is based on misconception of what it's actually doing to the body, or athletes just placing a premium on the mental effects with a disregard for the physical risk, or factoring that as calculated risk. The euphoria/sense of invincibility it instills is at weird odds with the additional strain it places on the body. I have no problem believing he was coked out of his gourd in that and other outings thoughComment

But that's what I'm saying. If you're strong enough to spark guys out in a round, two at the most, you DO benefit in terms of confidence and energy.Well if you're Iron Mike and you can blast the guy out in 1 you're pretty much good, haha. Many fighters, that's all they lack. They go in fighting scared. Like Young Eubank against Saunders. Imagine that same Eubank cooked out of his mind, balls to the wall aggressive. I'm not sure Saunders handles it.
Thats all I'm saying. Certain fighters MIGHT benefit if confidence is all they lack but they have the tools otherwise.
Besides, it can argued that Tyson was half the fighter when he was clean. How do you explain that if coke isn't beneficial?Comment

Didn’t Pryor have ******* in his water in his corner? I could see in very low doses it maybe having a positive effect, but being really high in coke and fighting would be asking for a cardiac arrest.Comment

To that I would just say it isn't that there aren't obvious hypothetical benefits to be had, just that they come with potential life threatening drawbacks. You could obviously argue that maybe the goalposts are a little different with presumed world class athletes in peak condition and that a specimen like Mike would have more physical leeway against dangers like cardiovascular overload, but it's risk all the same. So while it could certainly make someone predisposed to being a killer even moreso, not without considerable threat to their immediate safety, to the extent I'd never advocate it.But that's what I'm saying. I don't disagree. But just imagine someone like Broner walking into the ring high on some white ish.To that I would just say it isn't that there aren't obvious hypothetical benefits to be had, just that they come with potential life threatening drawbacks. All I know and to my knowledge; Mike Tyson has never tested positive or failed a post-fight piss test for ******* in his entire professional career. He did fail a post fight urine test for cannibis however, against Andrew Golota though.Comment
