its not that he isn't popular to some degree. its that he's not popular enough to justify what they pay him, and isnt that point of boxing? boxing is a business, make money, etc...right? his ppv vs fury didnt make money. this one is going to lose a ton of money since they have to sell 500k plus to break even. his big future fight is the fury rematch would didnt sell well the first time, but maybe it will this time? problem is they are most certainly going to want more than 20 million each so that means they have to do a lot more buys this time. there is a lot of fantasy hope riding on the wilder stock
PBC is holding Wilder back IMO

There are tons of other revenue streams besides PPV sales. I see this line repeated a lot. People think PPV sales are the only way to get revenue.its not that he isn't popular to some degree. its that he's not popular enough to justify what they pay him, and isnt that point of boxing? boxing is a business, make money, etc...right? his ppv vs fury didnt make money. this one is going to lose a ton of money since they have to sell 500k plus to break even. his big future fight is the fury rematch would didnt sell well the first time, but maybe it will this time? problem is they are most certainly going to want more than 20 million each so that means they have to do a lot more buys this time. there is a lot of fantasy hope riding on the wilder stockComment

Money’s worth? It was garbage. Nice KO and all, but the best fights of the night were on dazn.Well why isn't HBO doing that? They got out of boxing because they had no fighters outside of Canelo!
P4P is worthless. Do you think casual fans who bought the fight last night care about P4P? No, they care about KO's and they got their money worth. Only people who care about objective P4P list are hardcore boxing fans.
You're another boxing fan trapped in a bubble. You don't matter. You'll watch the fights regardless.Comment

Actually MP was one of 3 promoters affiliated with the fight. Bomb Zquad & TGB were the other two.
As to the OP the thing is idk that anyone is doing HBO quality shows or close to it these days so idk who you are getting while keeping the money the same. And the reality is most just care about the fight not the actual production value so idk if it's worth the trouble/expense. Not to mention it's likely long term better to work out your own kinks and find the right formula for you vs adopt someone else's style.Comment

Casual fans didn't buy the fight Saturday I'm guessing. Casuals used to buy Floyd and Manny fights and they buy Canelo fights when they go over a million buys. 250k buys is nothing but hardcore boxing fans paying to watch.Well why isn't HBO doing that? They got out of boxing because they had no fighters outside of Canelo!

HBO got out because the return on investment wasn't there for them i'm sure. P4P is far from worthless, those are the guys that casuals do find out about and tune in to watch.
I may be in this bubble but I don't buy PPV anymore unless it's a top level fight. I bought Pac-Thurman and Chipped in for Spence-Porter. 2 top level fights. every Wilder fight is the same story, he loses every round until he lands the big right and he wins. I'll save my $75 when he fights, I watched on youtube at 7 am sunday morning!Comment

Definitely.
They do everything on the cheap, they show seemed tacky and they rather have pretty girls than people with boxing knowledge on their show.
Wilder would be far more popular and could crossover if had promoter like Arum.Comment

All the stars were out for that fight; That is Wilder vs Ortiz 2. The last I heard the rematch was tracking around 750K PPV buys.Comment

I guess I just miss big promotion. 24/7 was epic and it's gone. I'll never forgot some of those build ups. They were amazing.
I know Jim and team would be at times biased, but not like PBC or DAZN announcers. Besides a bit biased or not they were the best team in boxing.
I feel like the fans are being sold short. I never use to watch UK fights but now I feel their energy. They have the big crowds, screens, buffer, ECT ECT.
Someone needs to step it up in America. PBC knew this fight would sell after the fury fight so why not give us a good promotion?
If fury vs Wilder 2 is a garbage promotion they need a thump on the head.
Well, I'm glad I got to see the best promotion in boxing in my lifetime. I hope for this gen someone steps it up.Last edited by man down; 11-25-2019, 10:15 PM.Comment

BULLSH#T!
Wilder Star Power no question has grown dramatically compared to what he was 1-2 years ago and that is Credit mostly to Showtime and Espinoza but also COMPETITION and Pressure from DAZN and ESPN who both wanted Wilder on their Network and sent over Massive Offers for him to get him on their Platform
I do agree that HBO was the BEST at building up new Stars in the Sport of boxing and neither DAZN, ESPN, FOX, Showtime can compare. HBO covered Boxing for DECADES though, FOX, DAZN... it has barely been a damn YEAR since they started covering BOXING so lets give them TIME
FOX I think does a great job on their NETWORK, if you don't watch their Network then you miss out on a lot of great Content. A lot of boxing fans are waiting for Uploads on youtube but FOX have their own Networks and APP so why would they just give way their content on youtube and not put it on their own Network. It might not reach YOU but it likely reaches OTHER Sports Fans who are not yet boxing fans like us.
Sorry but the Opinion of the Hardcore Boxing Fans is MEANINGLESS! The Success of Mayweather vs McGregor as well as KSI vs Logan Paul is Proof that what Hardcore Boxing Fans think means absolutely NOTHING anymore. Hardcore Boxing b#tched and complain about those events and those Events was a HUGE success without the complaining hardcore boxing fans as well as the mainstream boxing media. They don't need us Solely anymore! GET OVER IT!Last edited by sicko; 11-25-2019, 10:18 PM.Comment
