I did a quick count and it seems Mexico is as high as was stated, mostly due to Bantamweight, etc. but many of the Mexican fighters like Juan Diaz were born and raised in America so, while they stay true to their heritage, they list themselves as United States boxers, not Mexican. So...it may not be a question of Mexico making champions..but of Mexican blood making champions? If its that important for you...Diaz, Rivera and De la Hoya for example are Mexican...but are American champions because they were born and raised here...so..I mean...tricky question that may not need answering?
Juan Diaz continues to be a Mexican citizen, was goingt o be on the Mexican Olympic team until Team USA whined and complained.

You can not recognize these as world championship belts

Sniffing through this thread no one has mentioned "Puerto Rico". I dont know how many champions they have produced but it has to be alot. It's probably up there along with Mexico.

A preliminary look at the list shows only two current Puerto Rican champions, and I think the current part is one of the key factor in this thread:

Ivan Calderón (WBO Strawweight Champion) and
          Miguel Cotto (WBO Jr. Welterweight)

Hmm..well all I can say is of the several record databases I have checked, Juan Diaz is listed as an American boxer, not Mexican, and I do not think anyone is dis*****g he is Mexican, so all I can assume if that being from the United States has caused him to be listed as an American boxer and not Mexican. Like I said, if he's from the US then you're not arguing for Mexico as a country, but more for the blood. Dangerous waters!
