Wilder as honourable mention for strongest - he continued to throw volume, even if he was being made to miss. A lot of lesser minds would feel embarrassed and lower their volume. He pushed on, always believing in himself and his strength. Couple this with the fact he weathered some storms with Ortiz and Fury.
Taylor with honorable for strongest too! I just felt like it was Prograis who showed a little more heart in the championship rounds.
I know Khan has taken some incredibly difficult fights, but even in the fights he wins - he always has this mental moment where he convinces himself he's tired. He then changes his entire approach to the fight and gets walked down. The only exception was the Alexander fight, which I think was his best.
Strongest
Pac- Was robbed against Timmy then got brutally KO'd by JMM afterward, usually, things like that would usually lead an already aged fighter to steeply decline but Pac still came strong and proved he had more elite boxing years to come. He again, defied people's expectations after the controversial (but still very dissapointing performance) Horn lost when he stringed together 3 straight, quality wins, despite being considered over the hill and shot to pieces by many in the boxing community
Porter- The man has been in many tough battles and came thru a couple of close but hard fought defeats, yet he still comes out strong and very confident that he has a good chance of beating anyone in the div. One of the few fighters today whose not afraid to challenge the dangerous fighters in his division, he has arguably faced the highest quality of oppositions, among any boxers since 2017.
Usyk- Road warrior who unified all the belts in the cruiser weight Div by beating his opponents at their own backyard. With how rampant corrupt officiating are in boxing, that takes a lot of guts and confidence in one self.
Weak
Walters- Very talented boxer who was arguably still in his prime when he just suddenly disappeared from boxing. He didn't look like he was taking severe damage from the Loma fight but the experience of being truly beaten for the 1st time in his pro career shattered him, its a shame since I would have loved to have seen him square off against the likes of Frampton, Leo , GRJ and those 130 pound champs right now.
Strongest:
Golovkin
Usyk
Fury (explanation for pick - both in / out of the ring he's beaten adversity so has shown mental strength and has been tested)
Weakest:
A. Broner (although I was surprised / impressed in his last showing)
A. Szpilka
Mark de Mori
Yeah people with strong minds don't generally attempt or seriously consider attempting suicide.
Funnily enough, I used to think that too.
Now, I look back on those people who I know who have taken their own live's, and oddly, each of them were some of the strongest-minded, hard-willed people I knew.
Ex-soldiers, ex-pro fighter, ex-lawyer + champion level amateur boxer, ex-doctor (okay not a 'fighter', but truly an special person)...curiously I've never know any women to kill themselves or men who I considered 'soft'.
I can't claim to know what the connection is, but I definitely don't believe that only the weak take their own lives, especially when you know (well, I do) the paths these people walked.
Not that I even believe that horse**** story anymore.
He does talk a lot...but I'll take him at his word on this. something significant happened to snap him out of his funk.
Another nomination to the 'weak minded' list is...Zab Judah, if only when he is fouled. God I hate the way he responds to being fouled...it only encourages his opponents.
Fury... the guy who won the belts and went on a two year bender?
Fought a draw and went up against bums and wrestlers.
Yep. That's a focused guy alright.
Well I was scoring on his will vs another fighter. It's not for me to judge a man's war with his own self worth, I think it's different. For all we know, that war might have killed lesser willed people. Sometimes we don't control the chemical balances in our brain and it's impossible for you or I to know just how hard he fought (or didn't fight) in his own head. However I can understand where you're coming from.
