Showtime had to overpay Wilder and lost money on the Breazeale fight. They felt it was Fox's turn to take a financial hit. Wilder v Ortiz 2 wont even make enough money to pay both fighters let alone pay everybody else and make a profit. Ive seen some LDBC idiots on Youtube claim this fight could hit a million PPV's. Well Ortiz's manager confirmed the offer was legit, however i'm really confused about the contract clause. Ortiz's contract would have pre-dated the Joshua offer, so does this mean they generated an entirely new contract, just so he fought Wilder instead of Joshua? I don't understand why they would go to such lengths to keep Ortiz off DAZN or why Showtime didn't think the fight was viable.

If Ortiz is earning $7m minimum, I guess it's fair to assume Wilder is being paid $15-$20m? Let's call it 18 for easiness sake.The PPV is $75, so for the network/rights owner to break even, they only need to sell 330k PPVs. That doesn't seem unreasonable to me? Even if Wilder was on something like 12m, that means the PPV sales only need to reach 245k'ish, which should be quite easy for them to do considering Wilder's stature. (any fighter earning 10m+ has to be a huge draw)
