The gate isn't supposed to pay for the purses and other expenses. DAZN only cares about subscriptions. They only need 900k subscribers for the yearly plan to break even. When you take into account monthly subscribers plus restaurants, bars, movie theaters and international subscribtions DAZN likely made a profit on this fight.Comment

I'm not of the kind of guys who likes to throw numbers to prove a point but I think it's a very solid gate.
Ward vs Kovalev 1 which at the time was the best fight in boxing because it would produce the #1 P4P on the sport had a $3.3 Million Live Gate From 10,066 Tickets Sold on the T-Mobile

Depending on your viewpoint, the live gate for the recent unified light heavyweight title fight between Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev performed reasonably well for two boxers in their first major Pay-Per-View event, or only further exposed their lack of commercial market appeal.
So this made 2.5x times better than that event, and let's just remember that this was not on May nor Sep. Plus it was competing with Masvidal vs Diaz so I think it's a very good number.
It's crystal clear that Canelo is not Mayweather status, but remember that Boxing has been on a decline, Pacquiao doesn't produce those incredible gates anymore, and that fight with Thruman was a great one!

The best argument I heard regarding the P4P rankings was the reason why Crawford and Lomo are still ranked ahead on Canelo is because if they were both natural middleweights, they would both beat Canelo at middleweight based on their skill sets versus his. But I guess that argument underestimates Canelo’s ring IQ, ring generalship, boxing ability, defense, and punching power.Comment

These so-called writers are confusing being the pound for pound best fighter in the world with being the biggest draw. Canelo is only the latter. It also seems that boxing fans are getting tired of his shenanigan fights, so they are not paying for them. Good for them. You cannot cheat the free market.Comment

I’m confused??? This ain’t bad numbers at all since they only had like 8 weeks to promote and Kovalov for some reason doesn’t have a big fan base at all??? This wasn’t even on a Canelo date.
Ppl pulling the fire alarm and yelling “fire” for no reason!
And it’s NOT like Charlo, Andrade, Saunders are doing jack sht to help raise their profile for a MUST see fight with Canelo!!!
Only one even trying is Canelo. Everyone else just sitting around BEGGINGComment
