Comments Thread For: Wilder Shoots Down Idea of Being Named WBC Franchise Champ

Let's be clear-Deontay Wilder would rather lose a title in the ring than have one awarded to him in a board room. The unbeaten heavyweight is coming up on five years as the reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) titlist, an anniversary date which will only remain intact should he get past Luis Ortiz in their upcoming rematch later this month. With the sanctioning body's creation of the "WBC Franchise" title comes the safety net of not having to lose a belt in the ring or even abide by the organization's rules as it relates to honoring mandatory challenger obligations.

That WBC mfer gives no f#cks. Hes like a elderly lady handing out mittens she made for her friends & neighbors with his special belts.

Well done Deontay well done. And I couldn’t agree more. What great champion of the past didn’t defend against contenders? Big fan of this move right here.

The franchise belt is some bs. But of course its more bs in certain cases over others.

Canelo at least had the excuse that he wants to fight for titles at multiple weights & just like fmj used to be,hes literally above belts so much to the point most beltholders would drop their belt to fight him if necessary. But Wilder as heavyweight wouldn't have a reason to be franchise champ as a hw.

Loma got to get awarded franchise belt in the absolute most nonsensical circumstances,he actually "petitioned"(paid) to duck Haney in order to fight Campbell instead for the vacant belt Haney was so rightfully due a shot at that the wbc elevated him rather than Campbell once loma again"petitioned" the wbc to make him franchise champ of an org he literally wasn't even the rightful champ to because he had them Literally break their own rules to let a rival orgs champ fight a lesser opponent for the belt rather than Haney the rightful#1.

And he didn't even defend that belt a single time.

The same posters (& biased writers on this site) were losing their shlt when nelo was made franchise champ to fight in higher weight classes after having already faced 3 fighters that qualified him as lineal(cotto, ggg, jacobs) who were all ranked #1 or lineal when he fought them. But since loma was made franchise champ there hasn't been a single article on this site remotely near as critical of loma despite this same site acting like nelo committed capital murder.

That's it. I am officially a wilder fan now. Tons of respect his way.

Love how Wilder trolls PEDillian and Hearn. Serial doper shouldn’t be rewarded

I like the way Wilder thinks, DO NOT look for ways to avoid Mandatories.

The mandatory fights have been very kind to Wilder of course he would love to keep fighting bums the WBC serves up or going for rematches nobody asked for.
