They were gonna to ask for it regardless of whether it was Haney or someone else, did you see how excited Ol Bob was about the franchise champ concept when they gave it to Canelo? Old dude was damn near rubbing his hands with glee.

Anyways, I'm not quite seeing your point. I shat all over it when they gave it Lomachenko and I've just praised Wilder for taking this stance. Was I not effusive enough?

You said why would Wilder need it if he's not burdened by mando's. I gave you an example of a guy who wasn't burdened by mando's but still asked for it

So you're telling me if Teofimo Lopez had been granted the fight with Campbell for the vacant title and won (that was the original plan but the WBC said no let's do a tournament then Top Rank pulled Teo from the tournament then asked Lomachenko vs. Campbell for the vacant title) they would've requested Lomachenko be named Franchise Champ?!

Yes. Of course. Bob loved the idea straightaway. Basically means they can take the fights they want. It's a no lose situation, if they want to fight Devin or Teofimo or whoever they can but if they don't they don't have to. The real question is why the hell wouldn't they ask for it? Why the hell wouldn't anyone unless they were taking a stance on principled grounds?

EDIT: As to your first point I was merely pointing out it would be of less benefit to Wilder since he ain't gonna benefit from the provision of being able to fight in different divisions at will. I just said it in a roundabout way is all. Apologies for the lack of clarity.

If Teofimo Lopez had been granted that title shot & won Bob would not have needed to ask for the franchise Champ because that was an in house fight. They used every tactic in the book to shut out Haney and it worked. He got 3 fights taken from him. Campbell, Teo, and Lomachenko.

You're looking at the situation from Haney's point of view, man, and working backwards from the assumption that the intent was specifically to avoid Haney, when in fact it makes perfect sense that they just would have asked anyway whether it had been Haney or someone else.

Yeah. I get it, you're invested in the idea that Lomachenko is avoiding Haney and fuck, how do I know? Maybe he pees his pants every time he hears the name 'Devin', but if there's a legitimate reason for wanting to be 'franchise champ' other than just to avoid Haney then it ain't really an argument that carries much weight. There's many, many reasons and benefits to being franchise champ and Bob was saying what a great idea it was well before Haney became mando, but you know this already, man...

EDIT: Or am I misunderstanding your point? If you're suggesting that Bob would much rather keep all his fights in house and that the franchise champ is (among it's other benefits) a means to that end then I ain't gonna disagree, but again I don't see that as particularly being dependent on Devin, that's just Bob being Bob.

Arum is on camera saying Haney signed to the wrong promotional company to get the Lomachenko fight. I'm not making any suggestions. I'm telling it exactly like Bob said. Arum used the WBC to shut Haney out of a fight with Teo, Campbell, and Lomachenko. But since people can't use this to bash PBC (like they do with Crawford) then nobody says anything about it.

Aha. Well you lost me with the PBC bashing bit, that ain't my game - you talking about folk saying PBC fighters should cross the road? I ain't part of that crowd, man, I think it's incumbent on both sides to come to an arrangement that's to the benefit of 'em all, and I'd say the same with the Haney situation. But I reiterate, that ain't about Haney as an individual IMO but just about Bob wanting to keep all this ish in house as much as he can. That's always been his MO, why would you think he's doing it specifically because of Haney in this case?
