The real question arises whether Canelo wants to be the man at 175 or simply wanted to add a fourth weight division to his resume and “legacy”. Obviously between Beterbiev, Bivol and Kovalev, Kovalev was the easiest road to getting a 175 belt. The other two 175 belt holders are younger and stronger and more talented than Kovalev. Canelo is an excellent fighter but there are a lot of young lions waiting at 160 and 168 and would really like to see him step up and fight some younger more talented fighters at 160, 168, or 175. Weight class would be his choice.

I think it would be madness for Ward to attempt this. Canelo mysteriously has more knockout power at 175 pounds than at 154. He is not normal, maybe not even legal, and Ward should stay retired. He is a great broadcaster, nothing wrong with staying there.

Not ward! Crazy talk
775 days absent and you think this is the fight to be made? Kovalov was picked by golden boy because they saw what happened in the Yarde fight late in the rounds. Kovalov was not the krusher he was before. He was gased in the Yarde fight and almost gone. This is crazy to think Ward, who has been out of the game for 2 years, would be the next fight. Absolutely crazy. Artur Beterbiev is the next fight if light heavy is even a place for Canelo to stay. Ward is out of the game.

Kovalev had that Mike Tyson mystique that had opponents shook even before entering the ring...and Kovalev knew it. Ward CRUSHED that fear factor that Mr. Range Finder thrived on; which is why Kovalev’s been strangely ‘normal’ ever since the Ward fight...
Ward was never one of those average dudes hung up on the hype and intimidation of his potential opponent. Ward ‘did’ get away with one low blow when Kovalev froze in the fetal position of puss-ness and surrender. EVERY other shot before was where the ref said it would be OK.
Opportunist Canelo eventually saw what Ward saw, which is the only reason why he called out old past prime range finder: for a cool easy 36mil payday!
Canelo needs to take on the bigger challenge in the “prime” Charlo brother and the “prime” english muffin Saunders before closing in on the geriatric division or even before tackling the real top dogs in the 175lb division....

Ward didn’t win squat, got out-punched and dropped. Kovalev landed more punches in 6 rounds which were mostly power punches. Ward landed more in 6, mostly jabs. And then there’s the knock down. Gift decision through and through.
