Why 6 ft 1 Kovalev Couldn't Do What 5 ft 8 Mayweather Did

both had the same strategy outbox Saul Alvarez and shared the flick the jab out tactic.

How was the short 5 ft 8 man keeping buff guy Canelo at bay when the 6 ft 1 Slavic beast couldn't.

An outboxing strategy suits the taller man especially if he packs an excellent jab

Somehow I thought Floyd was twice as fast as Kovalev with a infinitely better boxing brain.

    In boxing Speed kills.

IMO Kov was leading when he got KTFO so he was outboxing Canelo, just not as thorough as Floyd had. Canelo had won probably 3-4 rounds before the KO. He didn't win any against Floyd.

Canelo just timed him and hit him with a 2 piece. he couldn't catch Floyd like that because of his defense and athleticism, things Kov lacks.

Because Kovalev is a shell of himself..has been a shell of himself and like Cotto and Martinez sold the end of his career to the highest bidder. First meaningful punch that lands puts him on ***** Street..which he was already on like two months ago. This was a smart and ruthless business move by Canelo and his people. They got to him before 175 ate Kovalev up.

Had it 6-4 for Kov at the time of stoppage.

Good on Canelo for getting a KO win. No one can say anything about judging.

Kov after fight interview was telling.

Didn't sound like a man who NEEDS to win.

He was smiling and laughing during the interview and I think it lends reason to those who think he took a dive. I don’t care either way because if he doesn’t retire they will retire him..he can’t take a punch for shhht.

Canelo is a different fighter now. He changed after GGG 2.

He actually became a stalker, aggressive, counter-puncher. For the first part of his career he was pretty much a defensive counter-puncher.

it was so frustrating to watch him against Mayweather because he would just stare at Mayweather like a deer in headlights when he has such a robust body and skull.

If he fought Mayweather now with this style, he would beat him.

Ok, then you see my point. Canelo was being outboxed by Kov which I didn't think would happen. He deserves credit for the KO win which I felt he needed to win the fight.

Canelo could land on and could counter Kovalev, he barely laid a glove on Floyd who consistently picked him off and countered him. Floyd made Canelo hesitant to throw shots, I always remember that middle round were at one point Canelo just lay on the ropes as Floyd picked him off, Floyd really gave him a boxing lesson that night. His career best performance IMO.

                    Yes

The one last great performance of a fighter on his way out.

I prefer it over Corrales fight where Floyd didn't peak yet.

Floyd had fully evolved when he beat Alvarez
