What??? The game plan was brilliant and it was WORKING. Just Touch him with the jab and move conserve the old mans gas tank and when canelo gets close clinch him and then reset back on the jab. It was winning him the fight.

McGirt forces his game plan on fighters, he completely neglects their strengths.

You have someone with power like Kovalev, and you plan on not using it at all?

      Thats a bad game plan.

McGirt has a reputation as a losers trainer for a reason. His horse always comes up short.

Kovs Power (his right hand) would leave him open for canelos money shot (the left hook to the body) the same left hook to the body that almost everybody predicted he would KO kovalev with. Thats why he wasnt throwing his right hand alot.

Kovalev has an assertive stiff jab, McGirt turned it into a tapping pawing jab.

Yeah he was throwing it soft alot, like a tapping jab just to keep canelo occupied. He would mix in a hard one here and there.

kovalev was outboxing canelo. he was the busier fighter and winning rounds because of it. good game plan until canelo caught him with the 1-2 steroid special. kovalev needed to put more into his punches too.

That's not what I saw. He was boxing well. He doesn't have the power he once had, simple as that so he had to adjust.

All of his previous fights after ward have been similar.

Planning to have the bigger older man with stamina issues outwork the smaller man without utilizing his power advantage is a bad plan, always was.

I agree with you I wish he threw his hard right hand more but I UNDERSTAND why he didnt. Canelos left hook to the body gets delivered FAST AND HARD it makes you tentative to let it go.

I suppose they were worried about Kovalev being tired after such a quick turnaround between fights

It was still an odd game plan though because they have to know he would never have gotten a decision with those tactics, even though he may have been up in most people’s eyes before getting stopped

It seemed to me there were content to get robbed and be happy enough people thinking they won
