  • Comments Thread For: Kovalev: Canelo's Very Dangerous Because He's Not Cutting Weight

LAS VEGAS The prevailing perception is that Canelo Alvarez is a far fresher fighter than Sergey Kovalev. The Mexican superstar is seven years younger than Kovalev. The 29-year-old Alvarez has never been knocked out, either, whereas Andre Ward and Eleider Alvarez have stopped and knocked out Kovalev since June 2017.

If he doesn't win by knockout - and that's a HUGE "if" - all I ask to Kovalev is resisting at least until round 7, given that I bet on Canelo winning between that round and the 11th.

Jab, jab, double jab, jab, 1 -2, jab and repeat this sequence ad nauseam. If Krusher can turn into stinker, he wins.

If Kovalev wins, you can be sure there is a rematch clause. If Canelo wins, seeing as he is so comfortable at light heavyweight, he may fight Beterbiev or Bivol. He could go down to super middleweight but it would be difficult for Canelo to get down to middleweight again. It doesn't matter anyway, because Charlo and Andrade, as well as GGG, would gladly fight him at a catchweight.

Bookies shat in the bed when they announced the rehydration clause. Kov gasses early so he needs to go for the early KO... on the other hand, depending on what supplements Canelo is on, he should gas too.

I'm interested to see if Kova stays with a disciplined boxing strategy, and also how Canelo
can deal with the cleanup left Kovalev throws when he feints the right but throws two lefts
in a stutter step type combo. He does that very well and with a lot of pop. I don't think Kova
has much of a right hand anymore, but he can bust Canelo up with that left and mix in a decent
right that still has pop. Everyone also seems to be ignoring Kovalev's straights to the body, and
I think McGirt will have the russian throwing that shot into Canelo's chest. Canelo's best bet is to
fight small and look to slip to get inside and make it a phone booth fight. He'll have to get hit with
a few shots he didn't expect, so it'll be a mystery to how the mexican handles that attack and if he
can withstand and then neutralize it. I think this will be an entertaining contest and honestly see
this as a more live fight than the bookies have it. Kovalev can definitely pull this out, but I also see
that it being in Vegas why Alvarez is favored.

Follow the jab right straight clinch sequence

Kolev should Jab, Jab , Right Straight than clinch. Rinse and repeat. He should follow the Lennox Lewis, Wlad , tactics taught by Emanuel Stewart. Add the clinch where he leans his body weight on Canelo to tire him. Would make for an extremely boring technique but could work. Anytime canelo gets on the inside he better clinch lol.
