I like him as a fighter....but when you add up his PED excuses and questionable scorecards (Mayweather SD?)....well, he comes of as less than like-able. Especially when they seem to be pushing him as a 4 division all time great. At least get a real 168 pound title. I do enjoy watching him fight though. He has real skills.

I give some respect to ginger. Can anybody imagine Taylor or Pograis step up for J Rock or Hurd, lol.

Also Boxing Fans are some MISERABLE F#CKS, name a fighter that doesn't get some sort of "HATE"? they all do! You can be the nicest and the classiest guy in this sport and it will still be some fans who just hate you for no legit reason
Nobody has a better argument for #1 P4P than Canelo currently! Minimum he is Top 3 For Sure and you don't have to be a "FAN OF HIS" to acknowledge that. Controversial Wins? OK? Ray Leonard had those too
how could people hate Shawn Porter... ?
the dude is classy... and he is a honest fighter who gives 100%
he brings it
I don't care if he will never be a superstar... I like all fighters
I don't get fans at all
who really cares about a fighters personality, habits, where they come from, what car they drive, etc... I only care what happens in the ring
check history, no sport has more murderers/rapists/scumbags than boxing... if the new breed of wimpy fanboys need a saintly sport, then they should not be here...
in the last 30 years, there have been 3 fighters who I disliked... two were blatant cheats, and one is a liar/manipulator who conned his fans and avoided risky opponents
the P4P thing is a different issue
while I do not necessarily disagree with you, I cannot 100% agree either... mostly because my P4P criteria is different than most people, I rate the old-school criteria ahead of resume
IF Lomachenko/Crawford/Canelo were all naturally the same size... so, nobody coming down in weight, nobody going up... who would win? ... based solely on style/skills/form
I can tell you... I would not bet one dollar on any of those fights
those guys are just as good as Canelo
resume is better for ATG criteria... who you beat yesterday, will not help you in the ring today... plenty of unproven contenders have beaten greats, and many of them went on to become great themselves
resume will provide invaluable experience, and it adds that proven factor when discussing matchups, so it is a factor... but Lomachenko/Crawford have definitely checked enough boxes to be right in that discussion based on style/skills/form
* Lomachenko/Crawford are BOTH right in the middle of that discussion
* I got no problem with anyone having Canelo ranked #1 ahead of them
if he beats Kovalev, Canelo is the man... #1 P4P, and the top fighter in the world... jumping two weight divisions and beating a much bigger opponent because you have better skills/style, is the very definition of P4P... it will be very hard to argue for Crawford or Loma if that happens, despite the fact that they are both right up there as fighters

I used to like Canelo back when he was stepping up to face the guys people said he wouldn't, like Trout and more significantly Lara. I loved the fact that he stood up to his promoters and called the shots, picking the toughest fight out there, showing real pride.
Then came all of the catchweight BS, saying he'd fight Golovkin but then dragging his heels as long as possible to age the older fighter - basically looking for every advantage possible over his opponents. I also feel he's become more of a diva since he really became mainstream and started making silly money.
So no, I don't like Canelo the person (from what I see) anymore, but he is undoubtedly a fantastic fighter. I didn't score the Jacobs fight while watching but I thought Canelo totally outclassed him skill-wise.
I do however give credit to Canelo for stepping up two weight classes to fight Kovalev with no catchweight or rehydration clauses. That's more like the old Canelo who faced challenges head-on. I know I'm in the minority but I think he will lose to Kovalev, though gain respect for taking the fight nonetheless.

if Golovkin selected Kovalev, the same fans who are criticizing Canelo for not selecting Beterbiev (despite the fact that Beterbiev only has about 10 fights and fought NOBODY until last weekend lol)... those same fans would be calling Golovkin a fearless warrior and ATG
this is absolutely 100% a perspective issue lol
