Does anyone seriously think Kovalev is going to try his absolute best to beat Canelo ?

There's a reason he's getting paid 8 figures sums, and there's a reason oddsmakers have Canelo a 3-1 favorite in a weight-class he never fought at, against a dominant champion to boot.

Kovalev will do a Golovkin, box one of his worst match looking nothing like a well schooled champion/world class amateur and forgetting inexplicably to throw his best shots.

It will be Canelo that will look like he was a world class amateur standout instead.

I opened this article thinking it was John David Jackson who had something to say. When I read it was someone else saying something negative about Kovalev, I breathed a sigh of relief. But then it says that Derik Santos Rosario was the assistant coach of John David Jackson, and it just kills my mood. That guy has been bitter even since the Kovalev split. He never has nothing nice to say and is always exposing Kovalev's weaknesses and flaws in the gym. I understand you don't like him, but can't you have a level of respect and dignity. It's a bad look when you start criticizing and trying to expose the flaws of a fighter you once coached. Smh, I can't take any of John David Jackson's stuff seriously.

It wasn’t your usual bullchit from JDJ , it’s the cutman
He didn’t say anything negative and actually did say good things about Kovi and truthful
But all he stated is pretty much what any boxing fan would and does already know
Personally , I think the man ( Kovi ) is a douche of a man
Recall all the bullchit from way back with Adonis Stevenson etc etc
Imo , he’ll always be that snake once he thinks the cameras are off
And I do believe he will lose against Canelo and I do believe it will be Canelo’s inside game that will defeat him

I know there’s not much information out there on Derik / John’s relationship, but I could help clarify a little. Derik used to be JDJ’s assistant. A decade ago JDJ had a HUGE stable of fighters. It was hard to train them all at once. So Derik was an assistant coach. Specifically helped a lot with the Spanish speaking fighters. Remember JDJ had Ugas and Dorticos for a little bit. Derik was a big help in translating. The gym used to be packed with all the guys JDJ would train. For a little bit I remember he brought out pro fighter Kenny Ellis as an assistant coach too. Derik and JDJ are both very cool, very humble dudes. Somewhere around 2015/2016 they split. Not sure what caused it. When they split, it split the stable of fighters too. A few guys went with Derik, a few went with JDJ. Didn’t seem to end on too bad of terms. Never heard one trash the other. Both super humble. Although yes there is a lot of bitterness from JDJ towards Kovalev. I actually was there for a bit of it when JDJ got sparring partners for one of Kovalev’s camps, and Kovalev ripped off the sparring partners. They were supposed to get $1,000 a week, and instead only got $1,000 for the whole camp. JDJ was def not happy about Kovalev doing that. Could you imagine sparring prime Kovalev for 3 or 4 weeks taking pounding after pounding thinking at the end you were gonna get $3,000-$4,000 for it and only get $1,000 for it? And these are not popular fighters barely getting by who really counted on that money. I def side with JDJ on the Kovalev situation. There’s other things too but it’s not my place to put it out there on the internet

Derik is a good dude. He’s been around boxing a long time. I hope he gets the right fighter soon that gives him a proper push and people take notice. He’s a very legit coach

Derik Santos Rosario is very familiar with WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev. Rosario was the assistant coach of Kovalev's former head trainer John David Jackson. Jackson and Rosario trained Kovalev for years. Following Kovalev's back to back defeats to Andre Ward, there was bad falling out with Jackson. Kovalev is now being trained by former world champion Buddy McGirt.

Many people are either ignorant or plain ******...

... Kovalev (like GGG and many others) was formed by the "ex-Soviet school of boxing", school which was centered on amateur boxing... Therefore, "that school" didn't teach much of "inside boxing" (clinching, smothering, etc) because those techniques are forbidden in the amateurs...

... people should also watch Tszyu, Pirog, Loma, Usyk, Bivol, Gvozdyk -- none of then was/is proficient in "inside boxing"...

He just rubs me the wrong fughin way
Not so sure about JDJ , personally wouldn’t talk chit like he did to the public

Thing is I haven't heard many or any bad things about Jackson. Kovalev on the other hand got let go by Sanchez and crapped on by Jackson. His out of the ring antics don't paint a good picture either. Maybe he's changed after being humbled by his losses because IMO he was arrogant. I hope it works out for Buddy and he doesn't get added to the list of alienated boxing trainers.
