Comments Thread For: Building The Perfect Canelo as Kovalev Showdown Nears

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - Given all he's accomplished, it's easy to forget Canelo Alvarez is just 29. He turned pro as a 139-pound teenager, won his first regional title before he could buy a drink to celebrate and was a world champion for the first time at age 20. It's a level of prodigy that neither Floyd Mayweather Jr. nor Manny Pacquiao can match...

Oscar makes me want to throw up for a lot of reasons. His style in womenswear, the nose that will soon look like the nose that the comedian Artie Lange has but manly his making out this being a fight and a super wonderful thing to do.
Obviously, the best days are behind Kovalev. He is in slow motion compared to Canelo. Canelo throws good combos to the body and Kovalev has lost his body. Kovalev has a good jab and as GGG proved you can hit him with a thousand jabs and the judges refuse to see them.
Kovalev is getting his cash outfight and after he gets hit with a couple of punches he will be running for the last train to Russia and his retirement,

Even if Kovalev KOs Canelo it would've called a No Contest

This is why Fitzimmons is a hater & no different than when arm chair hacks were saying Cooney was going to beat Holmes & as a result that bs fight is all time highest earning til recently & this is why pac won Fotd despite refusing blood testing to duck.

Anyone who doesn't rate Canelo as current p4p#1 after his last 3 fights has an agenda as obvious as it gets. Even more obvious when Fitzimmons justified it with Eye test bs after he had been saying for ages the salt was "because Nelo hadn't beaten a prime elite fighter clearly as can be"(Jacobs was the best possible in his prime giant mw champ that had just beaten Derev & Nelo outlanded him 2 to 1 in 8 individual rds", Fitzimmons gave "8 clear rds over a prime bigger elite fighter as a supposed criteria to rate Nelo over Lomas B level wins, then he immediately moved the goalpost right after Nelo schooled Jacobs as usual; just as hes already preparing to do if Nelo finds a way to win let alone by ko).

Boxing has some real salty hater writers that wouldn't sound out of place on this site with these ludricrous arguments to not give the most proven modern fighter his due. I think its because most writers secretly hate Canelo deep down or sometimes because they're loma fanatics that don't wanna admit nelos resume shts all over lomas resume.

Yeah, that sucks, because the only legit victory Canelo has was against the guy who was drained and not allowed to rehydrate to whatever he wanted, Jacobs vs Golovkin and Jacobs vs Canelo are two different men, i understand the salt and overemotion in your words

I agree with your take on Fitzsimmons. He is one of many who will not give Canelo his due no matter what Canelo accomplishes. Part of the problem as I see it with the P4P lists is that there are no agreed-upon criteria to judge fighters. If the resume is the main criterion then Canelo tops the list hands down. But I think other folks throw other elements into the mix. Some of these unstated factors are biased and have little to do with boxing. I tend to favor skill level, but there are many other factors that should be considered such as level of competition (resume), willingness to accept tough challenges, ability to adjust and other such elements. The point is without accepted or stated criteria it is difficult to put any credence to these P4P lists. As you point out writers and others will simply "move the goal posts" and hide their biases.

A good measured observation, likely a little too sophisticated for some. I expect the golden boy paid bloggers to earn their keep and splash this article in force.

                Good, thoughtful writing.

If you give Canelo Alvarez P4P#1 based on beating Rocky Fielding and losing twice to GGG then you're an idiot. Plain and simple YDKSAB.
