I miss their production and also felt the announcers in their prime added a lot to making a fight sound exciting. Giving boxing a big time feel.

Towards the end they became a mockery, though. Lampley getting overdramatic and crying for everything. Also they became shills for their own product instead of being objective and letting the product rise or fall on it's own merits.

I miss the HBO of the late 90s and early 00s, because even as they heavily invested in men like Jones and Mayweather who failed to fight the best out there, they also brought us Pacquiao, Barrera, Hamed, Morales, Oscar, Tito et al. I remember watching their broadcasts via Sky and at times BBC (who remembers the BBC replaying HBO heavyweight bouts a week later?). Merchant and Lampley are being missed dearly but things really started to go south towards the end of the last decade and I remember post around the time that Pac/May was finally made...this would be the final nail in the coffin of HBO. I said that they had over spent too much on some names and missed out on making too many big fights or making them at the right time. Pac/May destroyed boxing economics and HBO was the first major casualty.

Only thing I don't miss about HBO is the bias talking heads.

I miss the egg on the faces of the announcers who tried to predicted a win and their horse got left behind

I miss the hbo of the 90s and 80s. I also miss the early 2000s but what hbo became in the last few years was a slow death of its boxing programming. Hbo became the home of non American boxers, which were more common on showtime and later on PBC as a whole.

We can always wax nostalgic about how great HBO boxing was but in reality they lost their love for the game well before they finally dropped out. The last few years their fights were terrible. Does boxing miss HBO? Not if you are judging by some great fights coming up. There are some excellent fights in the next few months including today's Prograis/Taylor and Stevenson/Gonzalez cards. HBO lost it's zeal for boxing and IMHO it's their loss not boxing's loss!
