I had it 4-4 going into the 9th. Beterbiev wanted it more than Gdyk.

Issue with fighters like Beterbiev is that you have to actually hurt them to make them stop coming and second guess themselves. The nail fought a hell of a fight but he never hurt him once. Beterbiev walked thru all his shots and just kept on coming. He literally succumbed to the pressure. Beterbiev is a basic fighter, nothing special about him but his strength and will, however that combination is deadly and it takes someone with special talent to beat him,

Seriously Gvozdyk punches had 0 effect on him

Gvozdyk was controlling the fight, landing nice combinations and destroying Beterbiev's body but he didn't slow down at all while Gvozdyk wore down. When Beterbiev would throw combinations, his speed was like it was in rd 1....with his frame and structure, I wouldn't peg him for having good stamina.

Gotta say Ward called this one spot on..... Beterbiev looks basic but nothing is wasted in there, and the sound of those body shots was something else. Gvozdyk did well to stand up to as much punishment as he did.

Of course Ward called it right!!! When I first watched Beterbiev I said here that he would KO Ward if they ever fought!...

He took a beating in the 9th round but yeah mentally he was done.

Gvozdyk held up as long as he could but couldn't handle the body shots. How he reacted to start the 9th round was a tell tale sign the end was near.

He definitely overcame some rough moments against Stevenson, but looking at how bad Jack looked vs Browne, who knows how much Stevenson had left? I mean Stevenson tough a vicious beating in the 2nd half of the Jack fight and barely survived.

But Ward has always said that Gvozdyk was lacking something and he didn't like his temperament in certain moments. That proved to be true and he ended up getting worn out and had his will broken.

Good fight, terrific performance from Beterbiev!

Looking back right now it is hard to see how Gvozdyk could deal with AB for 12 rounds...but to call it out ahead of time deserves some props.

I have just always rated Stevenson and that left hand he has so beating him impressed me..but yes he was old and who knows what version of him that was...he was always probably a natural SMW anyway...but man what a left hand...after Wilder's right probably the best punch in boxing imo.
