I get the idea of being a fan if you’re a kid, I don’t understand why adults are this way.

Did I miss any other reasons for this insanity?

In some cases, race and nationalism have nothing to do with it. Myself, I've just always been a sports fan. Basketball, track & field, football, baseball, women's tennis, women's gymnastics, horseracing, and pretty much anything else. I coach sports and love it when my athletes receive scholarships.
Now, I don't understand why some people have hatred towards others that doesn't share the same views. They're just nutcases!

Because they're professional athletes competing at the highest level and we're envious of those with world class athletic ability. Your question is ******. An athlete can resonate with an adult as a fan. There's nothing wrong with that. Are you an "undercover brother" trying to overcompensate??

Fans live vicariously through the athletes they root for.
Rooting for an athlete is an escape from the daily grind.
Your fighter wins and you feel good. Especially if you put down some money on him.
