He is waiting on Oscar De La Hoya and Shane Mosley. Both those fights are much bigger than a Margarito fight.

Anyway, when Floyd declined Margarito he didn't go looking for some bums to fight while waiting for DLH and Mosley. He's going to probably fight Baldomir, the undisputed champ at 147, or Spinks, considered #1 at 154 after beating Karmazin. Margarito is the one hunting down prospects and top 30 contenders for fights...

In boxing, you can't just call anyone out and if the guy doesn't respond 5 minutes later it's a 'duck'. Some of you ladies need to learn that.

Smith is better than Cosme Rivera. All three of these guys are better than Cosme Rivera.

If Margarito ends up fighting Rivera then I think it will look bad on him. Especially after all his no one wants to fight me speech.
Yes, it will look somewhat bad if he fights Rivera. At the same time, it cannot be said with a straight face that Tony is ducking guys that are not even in his weight class. No one asked the small Floyd to come to 147. He CHOSE to, presumably to challenge himself. Tony is not 20 lbs bigger than Floyd, but more like 13 lbs bigger on fight night.

As for Ishe, that fight is a high-risk, low-reward fight. It's a waste of time. If Marg wins it can easily be blamed on Smith not having fought for years.

At least Rivera is active, although I agree this is not the right fight for Marg to choose.

boxrec is a peice of ****, margarito said that Cosme Rivera wasn't being considered as of now and that he wouldn't be considered unless there was nothing else available. Now that all these others are stepping up there is no way he fights Cosme Rivera, i hope he fights Ouma, that would be an awesome ****en fight and the verdict is still out on who would win that one.

About Ishe Smith, he brings NOTHING to the table, he needs to fight someone so we can see he still has something. He's trying to come off of a long layoff right to a title shot. who the **** does he think he is, certainly not DLH who can do that **** every 2 years. and he has never been a champion, or fought anyone to even get considered for a shot.

margarito should look at Ouma, Jose Rivera, Collazo, Williams, or Quintana. I'd much rather him stay at 147 where he has estrablished himaelf and can still make weight easily.

For one, Ishe Smith is definetely more known by far than Margarito because he was on the Contender.

Secondly, why does Smith have to prove something to fight Margarito yet Margarito doesn't have to prove anything to fight PBF?

Eh, no. Smith was quickly eliminated and people only remember winners in almost any show. Most of the people who watched that show stopped following boxing the second it ended. Funny thing though...they wouldn't have missed a damn thing in Ishe's case because he hasn't fought once since then.

Margarito is far more proven than Smith. Smith is not even in the top 15 at 147, while Marg is ranked number 2 by RING.

Smith was probably the most known from that show besides Mora, Gomez, and Manfredo because he was a big mouth *****. People know the name. At the very least more people have heard the name Ishe Smith than they Antonio Margarito whether you want to believe that or not.

And honestly, is Josh Clottey that much better than Ishe Smith? Clottey is just a prospect who fought most of his fights in Ghana. He's a total unknown and unproven prospect. Beating him would prove nothing at all. Less than Cintron. At least people might take notice if he fought Smith because he's a known fighter.

Personally, I wouldn't be happy with either of these fights. He has proven contenders calling him out. Step up to one of them already...

Right now, Margarito has the chance to fight a solid, well respected fighter like Kassim Ouma or Luis Collazo. Let's see if he takes it or once against fights another no hoper. ****, even Ishe Smith would be a better fight than Clottey. He and Clottey are on about the same level, but Ishe is more well known because of his role on the Contender.

All that the Margarito haters have asked for is a legit, proven opponent on his resume. We are tired of seeing him against no hopers (Lujan, Kyvelos) and untested prospects (Cintron)...
OK, but the problem with all those guys that you just names, is that Margarito haters would just dismiss those fighters as being no hopers or untested prospects if Margarito beats them. Most people were picking Cintron to beat Margarito, and Cintron was regarded as one of the best prospects in boxing, now that Cintron gets destroyed the win is downplayed, the exact same thing would happen with a win over Paul Williams. Ishe Smith is once again, an untested prospect.

There is no way you would ever give him credit for a win over Sharmba Mitchell, Rivera, or Collazo. Neither Mitchell nor Rivera would be considered a more dangerous opponent than Sebastien Lujan was, and not all that far above Manuel Gomez. Ouma already has a fight booked.

Another problem with all of these things that golden boy promotions is saying is that there is a key piece of info being left out: how much are they going to pay Margarito??!!

It is perfectly valid for a fighter to reject a fight if they are going to be paid low. The reason why Floyd is being accused of ducking Margarito is because it is well publiscized that he was given a very large money offer.
