Comments Thread For: Dmitry Bivol Has No Issue With Facing Joshua Buatsi in UK

WBA light heavyweight champion Dimitry Bivol is looking for a big fight, against a notable name, and he would have no problem with a showdown against Olympic bronze medal winner Joshua Buatsi - and he would even take that fight on UK soil. Next month at the Manchester Arena, Buatsi will face veteran Blake Caparello in a WBA final eliminator.

If they know what's good for them, they won't even consider putting Buatsi anywhere near a ring with Bivol. He is nowhere near ready for a guy like that. Bivol will bury him.

Bivol and his team may merely be trying to remain in the picture considering his ridiculous mismatch against Castillo, and that all three titlists will be involved in meaningful fights quite soon.

Bivol must surely know his stock has dropped a little after taking such a weak challenge - and is attempting to remind the boxing public that he is still the fearless fighter we were introduced to just a few years ago.
He's also the longest-reigning LHW without a defeat, and most pundits would have expected Bivol to be the first to challenge another titlist, as he has often expressed his wish to do so.

Gvozdyk has held his WBC strap for less than a year, while Beterbiev has had just two fights after winning the vacant IBF strap in November 2017. It's unusual for a fighter to embark on a unification campaign without first solidifying their position as a single belt champion, attempting to raise their profile and status as well as bank a few well-deserved paydays before putting it on the line.
Pretty bold move by Gvozdyk and his team.

As for Bivol, he is in the best position as he has more time to achieve his career goals than the other three. Gvozdyk is 32, Beterbiev is 34, and Kovalev is a shop-worn 36.

As long as he takes a meaningful fight in his next outing, full confidence in his intentions ought to be restored.

I doubt he is serious in taking such a huge risk in traveling to the undefeated Buatsi's backyard to put his belt on the line - a fight that fans would no doubt get excited about, but I don't imagine doing great PPV buys or other revenue from streaming platforms as both are not yet crossover fighters.

Buatsi would have everything to gain as U.K fighters are well supported in terms of the live gate, and even if he were to lose the fight, he too is young and could be forgiven for losing to such a highly regarded opponent in Bivol.

Again, I think this is all just about Bivol trying to remain relevant whilst Gvozdyk and Beterbiev square off.

This is a really good fight imo. If Hearn and Duva can come to terms, it's a great scrap.

... I think you don't fully understand Bivol's skills and expectations...

Bivol is very hungry! He'll fight anybody, but he can't get anyone to MAN UP! Hope he gets Beterbiev vs. Gvozdyk winner!
