I've said it time and time again. This should be Floyd's schedule...
1) Carlos Baldomir (147)
2) Cory Spinks (154)
3) Shane Mosley (147 or 154)
4) Oscar De La Hoya (154)
5) Ricky Hatton (147)
6) The middleweight champ (160)
7) Retire undefeated
Easily the greatest fighter of all time. I don't think it would even be debatable if he accomplished that laundry list. He would have been the man at 147 and 154 and 160.
Look there is no doubt that Floyd has tremendous skills and has beaten some good competition but he is nowhere near the best of all time. I respect the fact that he wants to strive to be the best, but I wish he would practice what he preaches. There are few great fighters in any era, and if you want to be the best, you've got to beat the best. The only possible elite fighters you can say Floyd has beaten are Castillo and Corrales and they are not going down as anybody's best of all time. DLH and Mosley will not be elite in my mind because they are both out of their prime... I will consider it like I consider DLH's victories over JCC and Whitaker... a right of passage more than a great victory. If Floyd wants to be considered the best he has got to fight Margarito so nobody can say he ducked a dangerous fighter and he has got to beat Winky Wright which I think would be a very tough proposition especially at 154. Look at a guy that has similar skills to Floyd like a Sugar Ray Leonard. He beat the two best fighters of his era in classic battles... Hagler and Hearns. People would tell you that those were dangerous fights for him, but he took them and won. Not to mention his other good wins are probably on par with Floyd's best wins to date. Floyd has the possibility to go down in history as ONE OF THE GREATEST as I think its impossible to be the greatest (that will always be reserved for Sugar Ray Robinson for me), its all up to Floyd to make the right moves from here on out. I like Floyd and I wish him luck in his journey.
Thank You amagnin!!!!! I couldn't have said it any better. You are right on. I think it is completely ignorant for people to be saying that Floyd is the greatest of all time right now. I think it is an insult to fighters like Sugar Ray Robinson,Joe Louis , Ali,Rocky Marciano, even Ray Leonard,Hagler,Hearns,Duran etc etc. These fighter never picked and chose there opponents or backed down from anyone. Especialy at this point in Floyd's career he hasn't done anything to even be mentioned in that light. I can take a lot of this Mayweather bull**** and ignore it like people thinking he is some sort of God or the greatest thing since sliced bread, but when people start making ignorant comments like "the greatest of all time" that really pisses me off. Honestly, based on resumes and level of opposition I don't even think he can be compared to Oscar or Mosley at this point in his career as far as there legacies go. Like i said i think that is a slap in the face to these old school pioneers of boxing like I mentioned earliier.
Floyd will never get there because he is hated on so much that he could be Vitaly and no one would still give him much credit.
ali was hated 2
wrong, floyd will never get there cuz he wont take fights that he knows he will lose.

he accomplishes that then ill become a mayweather nuthugger. but i dont see happening. floyd taking that route for there are way to many challenges i think he mite back away from.

I posted something on another thread that said DLH and Mosley had accomplished more so far in their careers. Look its impossible to compare boxers across different eras so for all I know maybe p4p, Floyd is the best of all time in terms of skills. But in terms of proving you are the best by fighting the best competition... Floyd isn't even close. What good is all the skill if you don't show it against top level opposition...RJJ?

Dude, what happened to Margayrita?? I though you think Floyd should fight Margayrita next, not Baldy.
Well to Roy's credit, he did fight the best at 175. It was just a blase' division.
Yes and no. He definitely did what he could with an average division. But he chose to move up to HW and take a relatively safe fight against Ruiz in comparison to the other moves he could make. He never made a fight with Joe Calzaghe happen (not blaming anyone), he never fought Darius M., he never gave Hopkins the rematch. I mean I see what you are saying but he made a CHOICE to stay at LHW. Floyd saw there were no good fights available at 140 and moved to 147. Mitchell was not a good opponent by any means but he wasn't a construction worker or a garbage man or some of the guys RJJ decided to fight.
