  • Do promoters really earn their money?

In another thread it was mentioned how Beterbiev vs Gvozdyk is happening next week yet there has hardly been any talk or advertising about it.

I think Top Rank has done a terrible job of promoting this fight which is a can't miss and should be a home run when it comes to leaving fans satisfied.

Which brings to mind the question of whether or not promoters are worth what they are paid, and if they are deserving of holding the positions of power that they do in the sport?

Top Rank and DAZN both did terrible jobs of promoting Hooker v Ramirez and now this. Not sure who was in charge of marketing for the former fight, probably Matchroom/DAZN since it aired on their network but both competitive unification fights that only hardcore fans seem to pay any mind to.

I'd say for the most part they don't earn their money and are probably similar leeches as agents

If the TV networks were to smarten up they would realize that they can do all the promoting themselves and cut out the middle man.

A focused push from Fox or ESPN can reach far more people than anything the promoters typically do.

I don't think Ukrainian vs. Chechen is ever gonna draw a lot of conversation weeks out on an English-language boxing forum.

It's not weeks out, it's happening in 5 days.

A meaningful unification fight like that should have way more buzz by now.

Just enjoy the fight on Friday man. This one won't get the LDBC talking, but it should be a firefight.

I don't care about the LDBC and I will most definitely enjoy the fight.

But that doesn't stop me from questioning if promoters are actually doing anything to earn their money. And is it right that they have such a stranglehold on the sport if they contribute so little to it?
