Kellerman takes a dump on GGG

No more following the hbo script, now Kellerman speaks the truth...ggg is a tough, durable fighter that puts on good, exiting fights (most of the time). The highly skilled "monster" hbo tried to make him out to be he is not.Comment

I just don't think a guy can have that type of amateur success (especially non HW success) without having a ton of skills...subjective I guess...his jab is certainly very special.Comment

Not even sure what you're trying to say here, man. Sure as hell didn't answer my question though... ain't talking about the sponsorships he got late on in his career when he was already in his mid 30s but about the fights he did or didn't get when he was actually at an age when most guys with major promoters are already well established. If GGG had any other promotor he would have the career of Kov. He would not have Apple and Jordan Brand ads you know how I can say this with nearly 100 percent confidence? Because, Spence, Pac, Mayweather, Ward, Canelo, ODL never had this level of mainstream deals.
If HBO boxing was 1990s HBO boxing they would not have built their coverage around a Central Asian fighting Cans on the cheap.
Oh. and Ward had a Jordan Brand deal, got it younger than GGG too , Pacquiao had at least Nike and probably several others (can't be assed doing all your work for you) at a much younger age than Golovkin, Floyd had multiple major sponsorships until his price tag got too high and more recently got Hublot... and I'm sure Errol will go on to get his own deals (bigger than Stevens Tankers, that is) once if or when he establishes himself as a dominant long running champion.
You seriously gonna tell me you think Golovkin couldn't have got better fights sooner if he'd signed with Arum or GBP or Haymon instead of the non-entity that was K2s US branch under Loeffler, or earlier still if he'd signed with one of these promoters straight out of the ams instead of the crooks at Universum? Are you in fact saying that you believe that which promoter you're with doesn't make a difference to which opportunities you get?Last edited by Citizen Koba; 10-16-2019, 11:42 AM.Comment

We have a different idea of what "a lot of skill" means. To me highly skilled is not just a good jab but also knowing how to throw combos, hooks, uppercuts head and body shots, timing and accuracy, head and waist movement, footwork, giving angles knowing how to cut the ring ect and against top opposition. Think Marquez and Toney, those are a lot of skills not just a good jab.Comment

Oh yeah I agree, I just think that the jab is really the key for every fighter...it creates distance if nothing else, and GGG's is a legit scoring punch as well...and the jab sets you up on the front foot if you can land it, and then you can follow up behind it and usually dictate the fight and outland your opponent, and that is the name of the game.We have a different idea of what "a lot of skill" means. I think GGG outlanding Canelo by 80+ punches in those 2 fights...I mean if that isn't showing some sort of skills, what is? lol...Canelo most people agree has some good skills, yet he got outlanded by heavy margins in both fights ya know...so yeah I think GGG brings a lot of 'skills' to the table, but his jab sets everything up for him...which is as it should be, the jab is the most important punch in the game by far.
Just not sure how one can reconcile something like those punch counts and then say Canelo is really skilled and GGG isn't...just doesn't really add up to me...just my 2 cents though

Thats all great but its not just outlanding your opponent its landing hard meaningful punches and combos and to do that you have to be really quick or know how to change angles. Now if ggg were able to combine that with his great jab it would have been a different story but he just doesn't have that...skill. I dont want to get into his fights with canelo but I believe canelo's combinations and head and waist movement scored well for him. I am also not sure about hbos numbers but regardless a lot of times you don't win fights just landing more...many times hard shots and combos outscore jabs.Oh yeah I agree, I just think that the jab is really the key for every fighter...it creates distance if nothing else, and GGG's is a legit scoring punch as well...and the jab sets you up on the front foot if you can land it, and then you can follow up behind it and usually dictate the fight and outland your opponent, and that is the name of the game.

For sure...I think most would agree that GGG lands some hard shots himself in his fights...yeah wasn't really trying to get into a debate about that fight/those fights though...some of the rounds where GGG outlanded Canelo (by my count not compubox etc), Canelo made it close because to me he landed the best shot or shots of the round...but yeah I saw GGG do some good work in those two fights as well, especially late on in them.Thats all great but its not just outlanding your opponent its landing hard meaningful punches and combos and to do that you have to be really quick or know how to change angles.
