Honest question, why do you think weight divsions even exist?

Marciano could bore in on a fighter. His pouncing and angles would definitely present problems. But how many of his fights have you seen in their entirety?
Again, we already discussed this. So if you want to see what finer minds have said, go read that thread.
I am not condfident picking either man. But a lot of people overate Marciano's victories, or make him sound overly brutish and crude.
I pick Dempsey and Tunney to beat them both. And both to beat Holyfield. But Holyfield is probably too refined and resilient for Dempsey.
You question how much footage I've seen of Marciano then you state names like Dempsey and Tunney with confidence. You're hilarious.

People can and do beat people outside of "their weight class" all the time. Casuals tend to overrate the impact of a few lbs in either direction. Anyone who's boxed knows you can beat a bigger guy and vica versa. And legit gyms will mismatch you purposely. I've sparred HWs more often than I'd like to admit. My ideal weight is 147.
When I was JV favorite training sessions were against smaller, more skilled Juniors and Seniors. When I wrestled varsity, my favorite matches were against the bologna ***** tit JV guys.
And when I began coaching I liked making those matches as well.
But even more in Wrestling, a couple pounds can mean A LOT. Which is ironic because, even without submissions that Jujitsu has, it's the best style for a little man to beat a big man.
With striking there's mobility. And one punch can change everything. That can favor a smaller man. Sometimes. But you learn very quickly when hitting the pads and teaching bag work that power comes with size.
Wrestling and Boxing do see division-jumpers but it's very difficult. The sports have become very attenuated.
It happens more in MMA, but even still they can't escape the reality of physics.

In a war, Marciano would be too tough and would hit too hard, plus he was deceptively sneaky landing his big shots up close.
That said, surely the whole point of Usyk's skillset and fighting style would be that it wouldn't be that kind of fight. I think he'd probably outbox Marciano.

Easy win for Oleksandr Usyk.
I get the impression a lot of current BoxingScene members have no real clue about Boxing, but just pick the boxer from the past because of other old coonts' nostalgia. "Everything was better back in the day..." etc. Rocky Marciano was involved in so much corruption, fixed fights, mob-bought fights, he wouldn't stand a chance against any top Heavyweight from the 60s on. Certainly not on a level playing field with no mob interference.

You're a cute kid. I do appreciate your posts. And I think you have the potential to really "get things". So don't let my post seem dismissive or harsh. If not for my criticism how else would you grow?
Usyk came of age in a very different era than Marciano.
Look at football: no matter how good you are, you do not sign right out of high school. I think a lot of guys would argue that straight out of college you're really not ready either. But a Minor League really wouldn't work. And you're always worried about accumulating injuries derailing promising careers before they even start. The moment a kid first puts on his gear, it's a race against time.
Baseball doesn't have A minor league. It has many. Players aren't even expected to hit their prime until they're intheir 30's, and great pitchers are defined by decades of play.
I'll be the first to say football has gotten too soft. And Baseball is too diluted. Ithink i've ranted about that enough on these boards in my tangetns. The point remains, sport has changed tremendously over generations.
Usyk has never fought anyone w/ a losing record, or anything resembling it. In fact, many of his opponents were undefeated. He won his championship w/in 10 pro-fights. No one knew if Marciano would ever become a contender, let alone consider matching him w/ a top 10 Heavyweight in his first 10 fights. And even you will admit he would have lost to the current champion (badly) at that point.
So yeah, Usyk hasn't hobbled through a dozen or so Phil Muscatos to break himself out of the local circuit. He didn't get a gift decision over a Roland LaStarza (fight 25) to become a contender.
Can yo ushow me footge of an oppoent of Marciano who looks as good as Gasiev?
