Comments Thread For: Eddie Hearn Reflects On His First Year With DAZN

Expansion into the United States has been harder than Eddie Hearn anticipated, but a year after the first show of his deal with DAZN he insists that he has not spend his way through his budget and there would be no let-up in their battle with Top Rank and PBC. Matchroom's first show with DAZN was in Chicago last October with a bill featuring Artur Beterbiev, Jessie Vargas, Daniel Roman and Jarrell Miller. But Hearn says he was taken aback by how hard rival companies and networks were willing to go in the battle to sign fighters, saying he has been forced to overpay.

“But with Gennady Golovkin and Mikey Garcia wanting to sign, as well as having another couple of top, top names we are slowly, every day, reinforcing the quality of what we are doing on out platform.”

Pretty sure he's been saying Mikey Garcia and lots of top names were signing to DAZN a year ago...

Hearn is only 40 yo... he should live even more difficult times from now on... anyway, he's making big money, tbh...

Is Mikey signing with MatchRoom? Haney vs. Mikey @ 140 would be a great fight!

Yeah he just slipped Mikey's name in as if it was a done deal, for the 7th time. Not sure what is best for Mikey but keep hoping he's going to 135

I like Hearn but tbh, I got DAZN because of Golden Boy's fights. Especially Canelo Alvarez's fights. I think Hearn really needs to pick up his match making so we can feel like we're really getting our money's worth.

Skipper's willing to dig deeper into his pockets than ESPN and PBC, if one of the 3 ends up disappearing I don't think it'll be DAZN.

i like how he slipped in there that “dazn got canelo” instead of trying to take credit for it as he’s done in the past. he made sure to differentiate there.

the goal was to break into the us market and hearn hasn’t done the job. from the looks of it, that won’t change. this just isn’t his forte. that’s why his his big signings are euros like saunders and usyk. he’s never signing any of the pbc guys and i doubt any of arum’s guys go there long term either.

so what did he bring? tevin farmer? demetrius andrade? jesse vargas? blah.

One of DAZN's execs has already come out and said they will be spending money a lot more careful going forward. I don't think boxing at DAZN is going anywhere either, but they will just adjust the boxing budget.

They simply haven't attracted subscribers from anyone but Canelo. So why continue pouring in hundreds of millions of dollars when only one guy brings in subscribers? They will get more subscribers for the KSI/Paul fight than ANY other fight they have put on DAZN this year, possibly even more than any Canelo fight. If not, will be close.
