  • Comments Thread For: Callum Smith Sees Flaws That He Can Exploit in David Benavidez

On November 23, WBA super middleweight champion Callum Smith will make his mandatory defense against John Ryder. But undefeated beltholder has much bigger plans in mind - like unifying his division and facing the biggest names possible. One fight that Smith would love to secure is a unification with WBO world champion Billy Joe Saunders.

What do you mean he isn't event 23? He's a world champion. Mike Tyson became heavyweight champion of the world at the age of 20 and became undisputed when he was 21. Just because Benavidez is 23 years old he's not gonna fight trash cans. He should be ready for unification bouts.

... I only do mean that he will be 23 yo on Dec 17...

... and I also guess you found (in Mike Tyson) the only example in the history of boxing to closely "surpass" David's performance...

        ... but it's OK...

Say what you want about Benavidez ...... You don’t go from facing John Ryder and Hassan Ndou to David Benavidez. Callum will be in for a VERY big surprise when he gets in there with David. David will best this lanky kid pillar to post.

Benitez win a world title at 17 and defended it twice in the same year. That's three world title fights.

Ray Leonard won his title at age 23 and defended it or fought to regain it four times in the space of one year.

.David's performance is not unprecedented or even unusual. Defending his title at 23 is to expected.

So now since no one cared to I’ll speak to the article. Benevidez is a talented young man. However Smith is 100% correct. Benevidez leaves himself wide open when he gets wild. The only problem is he hasn’t yet faced an opposition that can capitalize on those opportunities. The moment he steps in with someone with power and the ability to absorb what he fishes out he’ll be in for a rude awakening.
