Same reason they're shot or past their primes when they lose a fight.

It's impossible to be prime and win a fight and it's impossible to be healthy and have a tough fight.

    Boxing fangirl logic.

No adverse effects of a head cold on an athlete, are you serious? One of the main symptoms is fatigue, I'm sure that has 0 effect in a 12 round title fight and Hearn wasn't even the first person to mention it so its not like he made it up.

Personally I thought he looked unwell and gasping after the first couple rounds which went about as well as could have for GGG so it wouldn't surprise me at all if true.

I only get sick once every five years and I walk with one foot on the sidewalk and one foot in the gutter.

It's like this in every sport. Not everyone is going to be 100% all the time. But's it's nice to have something to ''throw out there'' just in case.
The truth in boxing is using an excuse gives u more credit than being humble and saying u have no excuses. This has gone on since the beginning of boxing and fans are mostly to plan because we jump on it. And speculate on it. So I understand why it’s so commonly explained away. Me personally I rarely ever get sick, but I was for sure hungover.

If it’s an enforced mandatory that won’t take step aside or the commission won’t make an exemption I get it but fk, I think part two is really a compelling fight. Hell right now maybe even more compelling than a 3rd Canelo fight...at least in my opinion. I’ve watched the last 20 Golovkin fights and wow was that shocking to watch, please run that back!!

... usually, the top guys from the "Russian school" don't fight each other... (we'll also have Gvozdyk vs Beterbiev soon...)...

... and I don't remember a fighter from the "Russian school" (who's below HW) managing to fight at this old age, tbh...
