Following in Nelo's footsteps, at this stage in his career, could get him killed.

Murata fight in Japan makes perfect sense. Murata is a big star in Japan.

GGG had everyone (including me) believing that he was going after greatness, to unify the division, fight the best, get all the belts, but alas he is a false idol, and was all just spin (Andre Ward would have taken his soul if it happened). Plus, regardless of who we feel won the 2nd fight, high tailing it out of the ring wasn't the stuff of champions.

I’m sure he can make 154 but only if he’s preparing for an Oscar winning role about a man descending into psychosis NOT to box.

Don't be surprised by DAZN's next announcement: "GGG vs Chavez Jr. at 168 for the WBC Huichol Belt"...

That would be the 168 fight that "makes sense" for GGG if he moves up in weight.

Fighters are made by beating champions out of their comfort zones, something that Golovkin hasn't done in his lifelong middleweight career.

Some fighters go way down in weight, others go way up.

I remember some years ago when talks about GGG-Kovalev were hot, while Canelo was still a 154 pounder.

Canelo is going 21 pounds north to face Sergey, while GGG is still a middleweight.

I don't know what can we say about GGG after he retires, other than he was a great middleweight with only two good-great opponents on his resume (Jacobs, Canelo).

Someone that weighs 170+ in the ring like Golovkin does isn't a natural MW.

So that makes Marvin Hagler a coward too?

Didn't really think that one through did you...

What is he saying, is that he CAN move to 168, but he doesn’t HAVE to. Big difference. Most fighters that move up, do it because they cannot make weight anymore. Not the case with GGG. I am sure he will move up if there is a fight that makes sense for him.

Actually you’re both wrong. Canelo is not a natural super welter. He is NOW a natural Middleweight having put on some extra muscle for Kovalev. This is an important fight with many variable at hand. We need to see how Canelo looks at his highest weight. In theory Canelo will be at optimal level since he won’t need to drain like before. However, he’s fighting a serious ****er at a higher weight so it’s hard to determine where he should be even after this fight, win or lose.

And regarding Hagler. Different eras. A fit Hagler, walk around weight is lighter than GGG. GGG walls around 190lbs on the off season since he’s no longer a gym rat as his HBO days. There was also same day weigh ins in Haglers time. GGG looked drained last night, there’s no way he’s a “natural Middleweight.”
