Hindsight is 20/20 but, it seems like Joshua was the more "winnable" fight. The 3 belts would look good around the Cuban's waist at the moment and would be good for his pockets going forward. This might be a case where "taking the short money" would have been the better choice.

It's been RUMOURED. Go ask somebody at the PBC to confirm this as a fact and you will get silence. You may even get told about some confidentiality clause.Comment

Wow, is this how lucrative this sport of business has become? You have to wonder why HBO got out of it, or Showtime slowing down.
Or is it just fantasy games played by hacks who are willing to get paid trump change to lie? Does this mean boxing has become so popular that networks are willing to pay fighters, not even double, but, man, 14 times the normal rate for a non-star like Ortiz?
Or it may be a deceptive card that they can play in the negotiating table in anticipation for another DAZN offer.Comment

Get their cut from which figure? The real one or the fake one? That's protocol. Of course the IRS will get their cut. They would get almost half of that purse. On paper, it's still a substantial number though.
That's the thing about Al Haymon. He believes in the patronage system of rewarding your fiends and punishing your enemies. He blocked Luis "King King" Ortiz from fighting on DAZN to keep in on the PBC.
Now King Kong is being rewarded for his loyalty.
Like Ortiz actually only getting $1 mil, how would the IRS going
to believe him if the IRS sees this publicised $7 mil figure?
Can he legally claim it's just for future negotiation purposes?Last edited by rickJen; 10-05-2019, 11:23 AM.Comment

#1 - You dont know what the normal rate is.
#2 - Ortiz may not be a huge star, but he is a star. He's been fighting on major US networks for over five years now.Comment

Is he bigger than Spence, Danny G, Porter, Thurman who made $1-2 million each when they fought each other?Comment
-
Spence was guaranteed $8 million for the Mikey fight and over $10 million for the Porter fight. Maybe the problem is that you have no idea what these guys actually make.Comment

It does inflate your value in the negotiating table when you inflate your past earnings.Comment
